i seldom use rar/zip format excpet when downloading and sending files through net.i feel it can't save me much disk space ,and create the zip file do waste lots of time.if possible, you can by a mobile hard disk,it's more convenient!

i prefer RAR format over ZIP. it has "better" compression so files are smaller than zip. but i normally zip/rar my files when sending multiple files over the net, rather than storing them in my pc. when i use RAR, it would usually be for mere organization of files rather than storage.

I prefer RAR files over ZIP because it has good compression. When in Linux I like bz2 format for compression.

I only have 80 GB on my hard disk and I didn't think I would come to a point when I might need more. This was a miscalculation on my part and I often get low disk message on my drive c. I have little problem with my drive d. I don't compress. Cheers!!

I don't zip anything when they were in my hard disk. You are correct, I had enough space here in my hard disk. I do use only zip softwares when I receive anything from internet or friends in zip format and when I want to send large amount of data through internet.

I use the default compressed file format (zip) of Windows XP, but I also use RAR. I think Windows XP has an automatic compression function that compresses old files to save hard drive space. This is one nice thing about Windows.

Well, when I need to burn something of multiple gigabytes, you would say that I use a DVD recordable..but I don't! I've got a special High-Compressing archiver, which changes the format into rar, but will make it very very small! I've been able with this program to change something of 6,4 gigabyte, into 650MB! Which is ofcourse great when somebody needs this software/game/dvd, because it will be much cheaper for me and for him as well, and ofcourse faster burned. It's a great program and very easy to use. Only takes quite long for the compressing..tooked over 4 hours..!

I like to use ZIP for sending multiple files through email or when posting a group of files on the internet. It is just more convenient for the downloader: they only have to download one file and then extract it.
I prefer to use a program called 7-Zip as opposed to WinZip.
