Why pray?

As a Christian we were taught how to pray. But have you wondered at all? Why do I have to pray? What's the reason behind it? If you ask me, Prayer is a way I communicate with GOD. If we love someone we surely wanted to talk with them right? Same goes with God, if you Love Him You'll love to talk to him daily. Please share your ideas.

I agree prayer is a way to keep a personal relationship with God. When I pray I thank him for the good and the bad. Whether I'm up or down, I continue to bless his holy name. Yes some people do forget about him when they're up, but He is a loving God and when you're going through a storm He wants you to lean on him. He's calling you to come to him to worship him. And hopefully when you are restored you will be a testimonial unto him. Every prayer doesn't have to be for the things you need, they should be about thanking him for where you're at. Sometimes it's hard to travel through the storms that life brings, but remembering that he was the one that lead you through the storm is your testimony. I thank him everyday just for waking me up and allowing me to see another day. I thank him for just being who he is. I'm going through a storm right now, but I don't worry because I know how awesome he is. I know that his destiny for me is much more greater than I can ever imagine. So keeping faith in his word is the key. You can pray all day, but without faith it means nothing. When you're down and out, prayer will lift you up. So, prayer keeps you in a personal relationship with him, cause God already knows what you need. So away give him thanks, praise, and glorify his name.

Yes you are right as well. Without Faith it is impossible to please God. Nothing will ever happen even if we pray everyday with FAITH. FAITH defines a Christian. Have Faith in God and You'll see miracles in your life. God bless you andrea.

There seems to be a typing error above. I wrote "Nothing will ever happen even if we pray everyday with faith. Sorry With should be replaced by "WITHOUT". Without Faith we are nothing. God Bless You.

WE human beings are very selfish. We sincerely pray to God only when we need him. When we are in trouble or any of our loved one is in pain, we pray so deeply that tears come in our eyes. Also we pray to God because we believe that he will protect us. When we are happy we forget him. But some prayers are always true....like mother's prayer for her children, and some similar kinds of relationships do show real belief in God. But what ever....we humans are selfish as we are always asking something from God....we never see what he has already given us, but always complain for things he has not given us....so when you will communicate with God only for thanking him and not for asking anything, then you can say you really love God..........Have a nice day.

You're absolutely right. That's what we are selfish and so ungrateful. Our first prayer should be always thanking God, it is HIS MERCY that we are not CONSUMED. So always remember to Give thanks and of course the heavenly Father knows what we need. Also he is a Loving God, when you ask he'll give IF you Obey his Word. God Bless You Sara.

I agree that prayer is a way of communicating with God. Much more than that, though, it is a way in which we open ourselves up for Him to communicate with us. As you have, no doubt, heard it said many times, God knows all our thoughts and is capable of answering our prayers before we even ask them. We should not need to ask Him to give us our daily bread or to forgive us our sins but, by using those words in prayer, we are essentially reminding ourselves that He does. Prayer is not (or should not be) a constant litany of requests like a child who is forever asking for this or that toy or piece of candy. It should be simply a way of saying "Hello, Father, I love you!" (which is not a bad thing to say when words fail one, as they sometimes do). By 'keeping in touch' with God in this way - perhaps a thousand times a day, one learns to understand and accept what He is about and to order one's life so that one walks His path. No more is really necessary.

Okay, you're telling me that you never had a best friend. Really? So you never talked about anything to anyone? That's unusual, but it's totally your own choice. If someday you'll ever need someone to talk to, Just do a small prayer in Jesus' name and He'll hear you. He loves everyone including YOU. God Bless you.

I totally agree with you. Praying is something I find very much meaningful to me. Whenever I feel down or need to talk to someone, God is always there for me. Spending time with Him is most important thing for me. Besides that, praying is the way I want to thank Him for everything He has done for, also to worship and praise Him for His mighty acts. If I have done mistakes, prayer is also the way for me to ask Him for forgiveness. God is great and if I were to pray 24/7, just count me in.
