If you were at an official job interview and you were asked to tell about yourself, what would you say? (Remember that you would be at a job interview and not speaking to a friend.) I’ve heard this is a popular thing to ask of an interviewee because employers like to know that people can think on their feet, so to speak. How would you handle it if you were in this position to keep things professional and to get the job?

I think if the interviewer can see that you want the job bad enough, they'd definitely consider hiring you because they could clearly see your will to work. I really like your answer, but still had to chuckle. (Hopefully myLot won't ban me for that - lol!) Honestly, some people don't look at job experience. If you're willing to work, they'll hire you. The same thing worked out for my fiance. He didn't need any experience because they trained him on the job, which is much better. Are you implying that you don't have a job and would like one?

First of all it is great to hear from you again!!
Hmm...I would say that I am self motivated and fast learner. I am devoted to my employers and make a point of personal and professional pride to work as a team to accomplish the goals of the company. I do work well with people and enjoy listening to others and their ideas.
Something like that it what I said to get my current job.

I am a technical support engineer for an HVAC company. Have worked for this company for 8 years now. On the side I have been a pastor and a musician. Things are starting to come together to be able to record my CD. I have written some new songs and I am really excited about that project.

I can't believe it's already been a year since this discussion and these comments. Please do tell me about yourself and where you are today! How is the CD coming or is it in production now? If so, where can I find it in stores?! You'll be able to tell by my recent discussions, but I've been a homeowner since June 2009 and happily married since July 2009. It's amazing all that can happen in a year! I hope you are well!

I like what you'd have to say to your potential employers because clearly, it works! I'm glad you were able to use your communication skills to get your current position. I know you enjoy the music end of things, but I'm not sure that I knew of your other job. Would you care to share? If not, I'll just have to use my imagination. (LOL) It couldn't be any worse than what I do full time, I'm sure. (LOL) Accounting has its good points and low points. I'm so thankful to have a job in this horrible economy, though. It's great to hear from you as well and thanks so much for sharing your "about me" portion of your hypothetical interview. Take care!

Well, this is a very interesting question. There's a bit more pressure because you want a job. I think I would generally say:
I'm all around a very nutty person. I like to analyze and figure things out, and I like to interact with people, and try to make them as comfortable as possible, so things run smoothly. I can be organized, and I have a tendency to put my all into something to try to make it the best it can be, so I can step back and be proud of myself.

You're hired! (LOL) That's a very good answer. It's brief, to the point, and gives enough about yourself so the interviewer will know. It's also not too much about yourself that makes that other person think that you're stuck on yourself or something because that's definitely not going to go over very well! Thanks for your response.
