My little granddaughter was over the other night and we made our first batch of cut out cookies. Autumn leaves. She loves baking cookies but I don't do much baking in the summer. Now that the cooler weather is here we will be baking more. Do you like baking in certain seasons? Do you make cut out cookies for all the holidays or just for Christmas?

I love to bake in the fall and in the winter. I'm not good with all the cut out cookies that much as I love oatmeal cookies and peanut butter. I make choc. chip as well. So we will be baking here real soon. My son likes baking with me. I make the cookies he goes for the brownies. LOL. So that is how it goes. Your friend onlydia

Hi Jill, Oh I bet that was great fun, I will probably be doing more baking now that after next week I will be home but I must admit I cheat a lot of the time and buy mixes rather than make from scratch but myself and my son do cook together. He helps me with the everyday stuff more though. Cookies for Christmas has just gotta be done though. We also do the salt dough decorations too. Huggles. Ellie :D

I'm sure it will be fun and she will do well with them under your creative guidance. Snowmen, trees, angels oh what joy, punch holes in them and hang them from the tree, your grandaughter will love it. Huggles. Ellie :D

Years ago when my son was growing up, we'd make cut-out cookies for Valentines' Day, Halloween, Easter, whatever holiday there was. Once he grew up, we just did it for Christmas. Now, the last 5 or more years, I haven't made them at all. It's sort of a mess to do, at least it always was for me, plus, the cookies would be gone in the blink of an eye! But, it was still fun and I love making all the colored icings. I don't think I ever did autumn leaves before. Those sound like they would be alot of fun to do. When we lived up north, I baked more in the fall and winter. Now that we are living in a warm climate year round, plus the fact we are always trying to either lose or maintain our weight, I don't bake much anymore. I'll occasionally bake a cake or a pie or the occasional pecan bars. Sometimes I bake 2 of those Pillsbury pre-made cookies in my toaster oven, one for each of us, for dessert in the evening. That's not REALLY baking, but at least we get a cookie!!

I don't do cookies of any kind. I can bake and decorate cakes all day but can't bake a decent cookie to save my life!

Well you are a lucky one as I have always wanted to decorate cakes but don't have the flair for it! Good for you!

I have to agree I do not fire up the oven that much at all during the warmer weather months. It just get too hot in here! I am so glad that you get to bake with your grand-daughter. I hope that God blesses me with several grandchildren that I am very close with.

I really don't like cookies very much. You are talented to be able to decorate those cookies so pretty. Your granddaughter must be very happy to have you as her grandmother. Enjoy them while you can.

Lucky you to be able to spend time baking with your granddaughter. I bet it was fun. Our grandkids live out of state but are too young to bake cookies. Will have to wait a few years and bake when I am out there visiting them. I use to do this with our girls when they were younger. It was fun and just good to spend quality time with them. We did do cut out cookies for special events. Then they grew older and began to make cookies by themselves. The kitchen was a disaster when they were done. One daughter in particular use to hurry out of the house once she was finished baking by saying she had to be somewhere. I had clean up duty.

But you also reaped the rewards of having homemade cookies! LOL....Ali loves baking. Doesn't matter what but she really likes doing the decorating. It's so cute to see her! It won't be long and you will be doing it with your grandkids!

She did a good job too. I like to bake cookies all year round, but I never make cut out ones. I hate the cleanup, so I do not make any extra mess to clean up.

She does....she even rolls out the dough...for the most part. Grandma has to finish. Freshed baked cookies are always wonderful!
