Elderly: I guess they don't matter...

I started a discussion a day or so ago about how we treat our elderly in this country and no one responded. I guess my observation was right on that people don't show them the respect they deserve, but do remember this...You Will Be Old Yourself One Day...unless you die young....Just a thought to ponder...

I wouldn't rate importance base don not getting answers. Just putting a discussion up at an odd hour will cause it to have zero responses.

Too lazy to go look it up LOL I got through about 20 pages of discussions when I log on and I answer the discussion that hit my inbox. After I hit my quota for the day, I stop looking.

Elderly people do matter. They are the foundation of what we are today. Here in the Philippines elderly people are respected and listened to for advice. We take care of our elderly. They still live with us unlike some who live in nursing homes. We shower them with love, respect and admiration. Because without our elders...what or who are we?

hi hershyskiss wellI for one would like to hear just once something besides oh I always treat the elderly with respect,,but I dont always agree blah blah blah. one hand gives a complimentwhile the other wipes it out lol. what on earth do you younger people think we are, antiques with out brains, or eyes, or thoughts, or even knowing how to hold a job? Yousell us so short. this is not 1900 this is 2008,come on give us a break. I worked until I was eighty. I am not senile nor addled in any way, I clean house, type, read, do many of the same things I did forty years ago. Old age is not a disease, we are not contagious and we think and feel and talk and write just like you younger people do. Here in the US we sort of disregard anyone past seventy, oh that old lady, shes probably senile. ugh.

Thank you so very much for respondig. It is nice to hear from someone seasoned...lol...I look for to those days of when I will be able to do as you and tell the younger people about the things we did back in the day...lol...I talk to my kids all the time about older persons, it doesn't matter if they are 20 yrs older or 40-50 years older they should still show respect, especially when they are talking to them. You keep on being fiesty and I hope that I can be that fortunate one day...lol...

I don't think, if you don't get a reply means no one respects elders. May be they missed your discussion. We'll always find people who do respect and few people who don't respect elders. But I believe that one must not only respect but take care of elders.

here in the Philippines, the elderly matters a lot to us, because they remind us of our lives, we will not be here without them. some elders are disrespected here because sometimes they are so inconsiderate and mean also, but even though they are like that, we still respect them as we can. we do believe that what we do to them will happen to us also in the future. it is nice to have an elder in the house, we always laugh when our grandma tell us something their past, their love life, and their wisdom.
