I have recently checked the average weight of a two year old and it is 30.5 pounds. That's 13.8 kilos. I am now a bit worried about my two year old who weighs about 17 kilos - that's 37.4 pounds. He may be choosy when it comes to food but he drinks milk a lot. He drinks one glass before bedtime, then he'd wake up by midnight and ask for milk again. In the morning he'll ask for another glass and another one before his nap time in the afternoon. He eats eggs and cheese for breakfast, he eats bread too. He has solids for dinner as well. I tried to cut down his milk intake and give him more fruits and juice but he always would cry and ask for milk.

Each child is way different, my son only weighs about 27 pounds and he is almost 2 and a half, however he was a preemie and only weighed 1 pound 11 ounces at birth. You are right about the average 2 year old weight, it's right around 30 pounds. If the doctor isn't worried, I wouldn't be worried either. Your baby's weight now also depends on his birth weight. Good luck!

I wouldnt overly worry about it yet, kids go thru growth spurts and such. Is the doctor concerned? Alot can go on height too. My granddaughter is really stocky, she weighs 25 pounds already and yes has a little chub on her but she is tall she is 30 inches tall already. Now to tell you the doctor says she is fine and she is only 10 months old. She is as big as our 21 month old. She goes to check-ups and they say she is fine. She has started walking so she might lose some if not that is alright too. We will monitor her. She eats like our 21 month old so I know it isnt bad eating habits either. Just watch and enjoy your little one, if the doctor isnt worried .. RELAX and enjoy as they grow up so fast.

This reminds me of my neice when she was youger. She was a bit overweight and when my sister took her to the doctor, he sent her to a nutritionalist. The nutritionalist determined that my neice was overweight due to drinking too much milk. She would probably drink at least 6 glasses of milk a day. She didn't like juice, so my sister always gave her milk. Now my neice is 5 and weighs 90 pounds!! That is not only overweight, but obese! My sister refused to take away the milk, so it has hurt her daughter in the long run. I would suggest that you let your child have a 3 glasses of milk a day and the rest of the time give him water. Juice is also sugary and can cause weight gain. I'd nip in right now while he is young.

Hi Mom :) You have to make them practice some good food. Cheese and butter are full of fat. A limited amount of milk everyday is fine, not always. Let them drink plain water and fresh fruit juices. Buy some fruits put them in mixer/blender and make juice for them they will love it. Egg is fine, but not everyday, yellow yolk in egg is full of fat and cholesterol causing. Don't give them Pepsi & Cola. Reduce the bottled items and promote water, fruits, freshly prepared juices, organic foods. Don't give non-veg foods all the time. You should had practised them like this from the beginning. Avoid some foods known as baby foods come in tins, it will be better if you can make some paste life food with powder of dry banana slices, ragi, etc. Don't let them sleep in night immediately after eating. Give 8 to 10 hours sleep time minimum. As they grow up make them practice to sleep not so late and wake up before sunrise :) Engage your kids in different physical activities and find your own time to play with them with balls or run or like that. Include your kids in your prayers. Have a nice time with your kids. Cheers.

Depending on the juice it may actually have more calories than milk does. How much water does he drink? Also how is his height and is his doctor worried? If his doctor thinks it's okay than I wouldn't worry. I have been worrying myself about my daughter who is now 2-1/2. She was 30.5 at her 2 year visit but dropped back down to 28 within a couple months and just now is back up to 30.5 again. She is 38" tall now. Her doctor wasn't worried about the weight loss though. Does he play and exercise? Maybe you could have some more outside time or sign him up for a toddler gym class. I would also cut out the milk during the night. If he is still eating or drinking at night you have to worry about brushing teeth better, espeially with milk because it could rot his teeth. It is so hard as a parent to not worry that we are always doing the right things for our children.
