Its going to be my first year dressing the kids up in costumes. Their 2 and 3 1/2 and one wants to be Minnie Mouses and the other Snow White. Snow White on sale is 29.99 for my oldest (orig. 39.50) and Minnie Mouse is 14.99 on sale (orig. 29.50). WOW. I couldn't see spending that money every year on new costumes. This year it will work out because my youngest can wear her sisters costume next year but my boyfriend says if we buy this year its not going to be over and over. Will your kids wear the same costume twice. I know my oldest is already suffering from 'princess syndrome' and next year she might have her eyes set on a new one. How do you deal with it?

When my kids were younger (they are 9 and 11 now), I could get them to wear a costume more than once. In fact, my duaghter will still play dress up in them (with the ones that still fit). You can go to places like Savers and Goodwill for costumes or items to make a costume out of. Don't forget yard/garage sales as well, or online sites like ebay. Last summer I had to spend $65 on a dress for a ballet recital. I was so glad that my daughter decided to be tinker bell for halloween last year. The recital dress was perfect! Thank goodness it was green. She wore her ballet shoes (we were done with ballet so I didn't care), tied up her hair with a ribbon, found the wings we had bought for the halloween before (she was a blue fairy princess that year), and pulled out a wand (we have many in this house) and off we went. I flat out told my 9 year old this year that we were not buying a store bought costume and we would make up whatever she wanted to be - which turned out to be a vampire (what happened to all the cute stuff?). My son doesn't want to dress up, he didn't last year either. He likes to hand the candy out.

Your be very resourceful and I like that. I did see a dress at Goodwill and thought too myself, hmm, that would make a nice princess costume. You know too, the Dollar Tree's have so many Halloween accessories too. I saw headbands, witches broom, makeup, fake wigs there. My daughter wants to join a dance class too and your response was really helpful to me.
