Plasma

I want to know the difference. Is plasma a complete substitute of blood? WHen doctor use blood and when Plasma?

The plasma is not a blood substitute. The blood is made of plasma and blood cells: the red cells and white cells. From what I remember plasma has some sort of nutritive purpose.

Thanks for the information. But when a patient needs Blood why doctor told to collect blood or Plasma. I have faced some situation. MY husband had to under gone a operation. And before starting of operation the doctor asked us to collect 2 bottles of Plasma. We did it and ultimately they had not used it.

From what i know plasma is a liquid component of blood and not a sibstitute. Our blood is compose of cells and plasma. Plasma makes up about 55% of total blood volume and composed mostly of water. It contains dissolved proteins, glucose, clotting factors, mineral ions, hormones and carbon dioxide. That's an old science though i maybe wrong. I hope i did give you a little enlightenment.
