Hijacked discussions and other rants

Don't you just love it when you're reading along about one subject and suddenly there's a comment that has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion, but draws attention to something the commenter wants to promote? Sometimes I want to report them, but I'm not sure if they have really broken any rules, except they're not adding anything of value to the discussion. I was reading a discussion just now where one member was looking for paid to write sites. The first comment changed the subject to paid to read and gave the names of several sites. I'll have to give them credit for not putting a referral link, but could they possibly think paid to write and paid to read were the same thing? Oh Yeah and while I'm ranting, I hate it when somebody puts comments in my profile with their banners promoting their money making sites! I delete them. Do you? One time I got so frustrated I messaged the person and told them not to spam my profile, That's what their profile was for!

I love it when you rant, it is so funny. I'm lucky i don't get much of this kind of thing but do imagine that it would be irritating as the dickins!

I also hate when few mylot members post comments at my profile page with their referral links. Even links would not be that attractive. I have seen few friends posting their referral banners at my profile page. I just delete them. If they do it repeatedly, I pm them not to do it. I do not like this one.

I can't understand why people do this. If you want exposure to your program, start a discussion that sparks some interest and people will ASK you! You don't have to go pasting your spam everywhere! {shaking head} People!

You have the point there but like them I do make mistakes and the author of the posts will put me on the right track of what he really mean to say. But taking advantage of a given space for responding for other self gain purposes should not be condone. Mylot rules are straight forward and should be clear to every members here.

Yes it does make me mad. I try and deal with it nicely if it's over in tne money interest and I think I saw the one you saw too didn't I ? It's not fair on the owner of the discussion when it happens over there and can be reported under several things - irrelevant, promotion, off-topic - but If I report I just put 'hi-jack' because that's what it boils down to. They should do their own discussions to promote their stuff not jump on someone else's. I got round the problem with my profile by removing the comment sortie If friends want to drop a line they send a PM and many is the morning I wake up to find my message box full of really sweet PMs. I'd rather that than on my profile because, after all, it is MINE! Happy posting!

Yes, you did put the offender of this particular discussion in place! Thank you. I'm not in a mood to be nice today and I really didn't want to rip anybody apart, just their actions! So far I've only had one person spam my profile on myLot. I just think it is extremely rude! I hadn't thought about removing the comment section. Maybe I will later.
