In your opinion, What makes a good discussion post on myLot?

Some people just have the knack for starting a discussion. Is it the topic? Is it the time of day it was posted? Is it excellent presentation? Is it controversy? Do great topics have anything in common or is it purely cooincidental that some discussions drum up more interest? What do you think?

Hi there rocketj1 In my opinion what makes a good discussion is something that maybe appeals to everyone. I had a discussion about what people cooked in their microwaves which got 150 responses but I was genuinely interested in what people cook in theirs. As I am sure you are aware I started a simular discussion about slowcookers/crockpots and again I really want to know. I hate discussions where people just ask a simple question like do you like pepsi or cola without having some kind of story behind it. Some people seem to just rattle off discussion without a care in the world and then leave it carry on without even answering to a single response, that annoys me!!

When I comment to someone's response I try to leave it open so there is scope to continue the discussion. Sometimes people don't say a lot and all you can do is thank them for their response. I also have a friend who sometime's comments by saying that she looks forward to seeing me in other discussions which is nice but then I feel that it is simply the end of conversation if you see what I mean. I like it when I see your new discussions appear in my mailbox and you are one of my favourite mylotters too, you seem to relate to the same sort of things as me and I like that!! Humbug25 and rocketj1 against the world!!!!!!

Oooooh, I hate it when I don't get any comments either. Especially when you think that you really had a unique opinion that no one else has shared. When I start a discussion, commenting on the responses is my favorite part. It feels like a real conversation. I like to talk a bit and it also just feels like the polite thing to do. If you get a comment on your response, then you know that at least 1 person has taken the time to read what you have written. Thank you. You are one of my favorite myLot friends!

Well for me, it has something to do with either politics, for the US really, or pop culture of some sort, or even just a discussion about random stuff. Just something to cheer me up after a hard day's school work, or whatever. But something that really makes a good discussion is a well written topic. If it says "w3 4ll n333d tew wahtch dat tV shOW" or whatever, I'm going to go -headesk- and just close the window, but if it's well written and maybe says, "In your honest opinion, what really makes a good discussion, or what's a key way to develop qualities of a good discussion" that's very welcoming. So definitly good sentence structure, and grammar and spelling too.

I think a good discussion touches on some topic people have strong feelings about or that almost everyone knows something about. it would have to be a topic where people are likely to have differing opinons.
