Down and out, what do you say

Things in the county where I live are really really bad. Tourism and Construction are the bulk of our jobs. Both are suffering, to say the least. Today the news reported that tourism was down a huge amount last month and the people who did come spent less. Construction has almost stopped for residential construction. There were only 32 residential permits last month, compared to hundreds two years ago.
I got laid off in July. I have heard of four friends who got laid off this week, and maybe two more next week. There are just no jobs here. Unemployment is at an all time high. The department of children and families reported Lee County has one of the highest increases in food stamp recipients in the nation. Foreclosures are off the charts.
This is a really down and out scary time for all of us.
To add insult to injury, the politicians "talk their talk"... WE have to do something about this financial dilemma before it hits main street America. HELLO it already has!
I am speechless. I don't know what to say when I hear about my friends hurting. I feel their pain.
What can I say to support my friends? How is it where you live? What do you say to help your friends?

i really dont know what to say but we are going to have to go back to living frugally and families will have to get along and pull together, live together , share cost, etc. we could take a few pointers from the elderly who lived through the depresion. not many around now but the ones that can remember we should listen to.

things sre terrible here. one factory that had been here since before i was born is closing now. some people that work there have nebver had another job. it is sad, sadfr us working class of folks. of course i had to quit work 4 uears ago due to bad health but i certainly can feel for these folks losing their jobs. it's quite a shock to you no matter what the circumstances. our downtown looks about like a ghost town so many buisnesses have closed up. it is a very bad & sad time.
