he's always been healthy, and recently he has started scratching and pulling the hair out of a spot on the middle of his upper back. It the base of the hair, around the follicle appears to have dry skin, like dandruff. Is there anything I can do? The poor little guys seems fine, but he's got to be miserable!

Could be molting, or could have fleas or mites. Here's some links with good info on rabbit care. http://www.rabbit.org/faq/index.html http://www.rabbithaven.org/BunnyBasics/bunnybasics.htm

are mites easy to spot? I did a check and haven't seen any fleas. I tried moisturizing rabbit shampoo, but to no avail. I had a suggestion about Tea Tree oil... have you ever used it on a rabbit?

My rabbit had ear mites, but they were outside/base of his ears, neck, chin, and they were bumpy/scabby-that's what you would see. I was just going to post back, what are you feeding him/her? A lot of animals develop skin conditions due to their diets.

Found a better link about fur loss. I've never heard/tried the tea tree oil. I'd try to find out what's causing the hair loss first before using anything. Maybe call your vet and ask, though they'll probably want to see him...... http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/furloss.html
