Well this day just gets better and better ....NOT!!!!! now don't get me wrong, I am an avid animal lover of all species; I have three cats of my own and two big dogs to feed each month. Today just an hour ago I find that the stray abandoned Cat that lives out in the creek branch that I do feed, bless her heart has decided to have her six newborn babies right under my window outside...yeah raw!!! Six Six tiny cute beautiful babies, this is her first litter, she's beside herself as to what to do with them. they still have their umbilical cords on them and Wads of you know what attached to that too on each kitten she's barely cleaned herself up any, how do I know? Because I went out there and found them, that's how I know, and wouldn't you know it, she had them under the most prickliest sticky, evergreen bush in the world. I've got blood cuts all over me trying to dig them out from under there, and I only did because we are expecting RAIN tomorrow of course...OMG!! I can't take care of 6 newborns and feed the momma cat more food than what I've been giving her... just a few weeks ago the neighbor and I found homes for two little black kittens that I was worried were gonna get run over by a car from the creek....ARARRGGGGhhh!!!! I cannot ignore them either but I seriously cannot afford to feed this herd of cats, and I really really hate the people that have them and then abandon them; I don't want to call the humane society either I just don't know, and right now I'm not too sure the new momma is gonna feed them and take care of them I gathered them up into a nice small tote easily can be stepped into by the momma cat but yet deep enough to house the little babies safely for now I for sure can't bottle feed all of them, I hope she goes back into the box and takes care of them after she ate good she was busy cleaning up herself and ignoring the babies so I just came back inside....I should've never gotten up today...(G)!

Hi there! What a nice surprise! If you can put them in a safe box, and bring them inside, with Mom, to a quiet room, with the door closed, the Mom will probably start caring for them. Unless she is sick or still has another baby about to be born. The cords need to be cut, about an inch and a half or 2 inches from the navel. Mommie cats sometimes fail, but generally they are excellent at caring for their babies. This one is probably just too young and didn't know what was happening, which is why she had them under your bush. Give her a safe, secure place with water and food, and see if she doesn't start caring for them. IN the meantime, you get online and look for a rescue that will take the whole family. Write on craigslist, and look for rescues near you on Petfinder.com, as well as 1800saveapet.com. The shelters sometimes have people to foster new little families, but call and ask first, because many will euthanize the whole family because they will just catch diseases in the shelter. If the Mom will let you pick her up, try to feel her belly and see if she seems ok. She might be scared, but it should not hurt her to be touched there. You can even try to help the kittens get to where they can nurse and then she might get the idea. You can also put out a notice on craisglist asking for help with food and vet care. You'd be surprised how many times people will come thru for you. Just be sure whoever you give the kittens to is for real and trustworthy -- get references.

You might also ask the shelters near you if they have any extra food they will allow you to have while you are caring for the family. And if they have someone that will spay/neuter the whole family when the time comes. Some shelters will not help you, but many do get surplus of donated food at times and are willing to part with some for a good cause. Again, try craigslist, too.

LOL!! I LOVE your description of getting the kittens out from under the prickly bush!! You're a writer at heart! I'm glad she is nursing them, and all is well. And glad the neighbor is helping you feed. Hopefully you can find them a rescue or homes when they get older.

Hi there "thedogshrink" so far she's doing fine with them I sat out there with her for a long time, the female that had the babies is the most friendliest cat I've ever seen for being left to fend on her own, she was here last year when I first moved to this hideous place, then I didn't see her again until about two months ago, then she started coming around again on a daily basis and of course I was feeding her outside, she wanted to come in but not knowing what sort of disease if any she might have I didn't and don't want her anywhere near my baby...my cat Screamer I would just die of heartache if something happened to her because I let a stray cat inside you know? The spare room that I have here is my computer room and of course Screamer sits upon my chair while I'm in here, she is very fond of me her ( momma) and is quite put off with me even when I'm outside feeding the other cats..(G)! she sits inside here and does this negative Howling meow she does and when I come back inside she is stand offish for a few moments letting me know that she disapproves of my behavior outside with strange cats...LOL! nothing here on the weekend is open but I will check around come Monday right now the little ones have nursed and I am confident they will be fine in the box/container I have them in ...Momma cat had no problem with me handling her and her babies, she just had them in the dangest place for me to get too, I felt like I was playing twister with a sticky prickly bush while standing on my head trying to get ahold of them all; Momma Cat aka Tippy2 as I call her ate a good meal and has plenty outside for the night...my neighbor also set out a can of tuna...LOL! one way or another we will manage but I surely do not need 6 kitty's and another momma cat to feed daily along with my other critter's now if I were rich and lived out in the country like I used too it wouldn't be a big deal.. if I took them out to the farm and stuck them all in one of the barns dear old Dad would shoot me and the litter..and not think anything of it so that's not happening either, as it is now there is a stray cat at the farm, and he is threatening to shoot it now...he is a "hateful spiteful person" but that's another story in itself... but thank you for your helpful and thoughtful suggestions;

LOL---Hey It's the Blessing of the Animals day, so maybe that's why she gave birth today..I know how frustrating it must be though...it's like one wants to help out in a situation like this, but to try and take care of six newborns plus the mamma cat is a bit much. You're just going to have to hope and pray that she'll take care of them in that tote bag type shelter you created....Do you have an extra large sized travel carrier for pets..that might be more secure. You could put towels on the bottom to soften the bottom of it a bit I'm surprised though that she's ignoring them...usually a momma cat cleans the babies as they are born

HI {{Pye}} Yeah she sure did bless me with some new babies...LOL! so far she is doing ok with them, we had a long heart to heart on this issue yesterday afternoon; I told her I was not able to feed/bottle feed her brood of six newborns with my health I'd be hard pressed to have done it for one of them but after a lot of "coaching" and firmness that it was up to her to take care of them, she did start to become a Mother.. poor darlin Momma she was so weak from giving birth to six babies she could hardly stumble around, I've never seen a "new Mom" so weak it broke my heart: I went back to where she had given birth stood on my head again and felt around on the ground, it was pretty wet via blood, afterbirth, ( sorry) to those that find this a bit "squea~mish" but its all a part of life, anyway where she had them was just a "mess" basically so I really am glad I got them up out of that area, NASTY!!!! Stop by later today and I'm going to have some pics of the new family up on here. send me a few blessings for me and this new brood, we could all use it!

I do not know how to take care of animals and I don't have any pets of my own. I would be completely lost if a cat decided to have a family at my home. I live with my brother for now and they have dogs here. I don't think that cats would be welcome at his house. Cheers!!

Its great isn't it how stray animals seem to know the people who will look after them. So in a way she has honored you, because she must have known you would help her out, not much consolation I know and if you are anything like me you will want to take responsibility for them. I have had many stray cats come and try to live with me over the years, although luckily for me they were all male!

Hi Gemini_rose: Yeah animals always know but I wish she'd conjur up a way for me to have more money on hand per month, find me a bag of cash or something that would be nice..LOL! I know that's too much to ask for.. Right now she is laying in her box with the babies all curled up, I've not seen them nurse yet and until I do I won't be satisfied that she will nurse them; but I'm grateful to see her at least in the box I provided for her and her babies and they are under shelter at least on the porch area in case of bad weather; but six kittens OH MY GOSH!!!! I will try to take a picture of them later on poor little things it does just break my heart...all four stray cats over here are FEMALE of course...3 have had kittens at some point in the last several months ..great I wonder how mnay more will come up outta the creek bank?? sshhh! I didn't say that..ok?

I do believe that the best thing you can do is what you said you didn't want to do, call the humane society. You already have as many animals as you can take care of properly, per your own admission. Do the right thing for the kittens and for you.

Lol, thats cool buddy you have made a fortune :D !! Some thing similar happened to me when I was a kid too !! There was a huge rain and I heard puppies moaning from behind the bushes, before that I never knew that the street dog has been hiding puppies in there !! But after I have called up few of my friends to help out the puppies !! Made them a small home out of wood and some clothes, we though that momma dog will come and bite us but she was just watching the whole thing , may be she realized that we were there to help !! For about a month we fed the dogs daily and got lots of scoldings from my mom for having getting into un hygenic places lol !! But after that they went on to the streets and now they are really big lol :)

Talk about a mixed blessing...it's really hard to say no to a tiny little kitten struggling to live. I hope you've found some solutions to your problems... ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

I just saw this discussion! has the momma cat began to take care of the little ones. I sure how that she is taking care of them. I certainly know exactly what you mean about not being able to afford more animals. Momma cat seems resourceful, I bet that she is a good little hunter, and helping to keep rodents away from your place.
