Something To Make You Smile! (Giving Up Wine):-

October 4, 2008 8:51pm CST
I was walking down the street, when I was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby -looking homeless woman, who asked me for a couple of dollars for dinner. I took out my wallet, got out ten dollars nd asked,'if i give you ths money will you buy wine with it instead of dinner? "no, I had stop drinking years ago", the homeless woman told me. "Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food,?' I asked. 'No, I don't waste time shopping,' the homeless woman said, 'I need to spend all my time staying alive,' Will you spend this on a beauty salan instead of food? I asked. "Are you NUTS!' replied the homeless woman, 'I haven't had my hair done in 20 years!' 'well, i said,' I'm not going to give you the mpney, instead, I'm going to take you out for dinner with my husband and me tonight,' The homeless woman was shocked. 'Won't your husband be furious with you for doing that? I know I'm dirty, and I probably smell disgusting," I said, 'that's okay, it's importantand for him to see what woman looks like after she has given up shopping, hair appointments and wine. Now to turn this into a discussion, have you ever given money or food to a homeless person? I've given them food and a ciggerete. Tamara

Hi. tamarafireheart! This is a beautiful and inspiring discussion that you have created! This homeless woman is a very smart and intelligent woman. I have given money to a homeless man that hangs around into town a lot. He was very happy with the little bit of money that I have given to him too. I hope that this woman has enjoyed her dinner with you and your husband.

Hello Cream, I have always given some food and tea or coffee, but won't not give them any money as I know where they will spend it, one one occasion, a man refuse to take food and only wants money so he can buy a can, then I just walk away, but saying that sometimes I feel very sad for them and in some cases these homeless people are homeless with no fault of their own, thanks cream for your respond, it does makes you think though. Well, since my husband and I are spending a lot of time now giving back to the homeless via a Homeless Ministry thru our church, I can say there are a lot of times we are seen giving them sandwiches, water, etc. We have even got to know some of them and when their Birthdays are, and given them something special on their birthdays as well. What people need to remember is they are people too.

That was great! I didn't expect that to be a joke. I thought that was a true story. Thanks for sharing it here with us on myLot. And it did make me smile. I don't think I can say I have "never" given money to the homeless. But, I have a tendency to donate through organizations instead of direct. Have a wonderful day!

Hi Tamara, What was the outcome?.How many times can you invite a homeless for dinner or anyone needing help?Over here, people cannot be trusted. They might turn up to be tricksters or scoundlers.Your family might be in danger when inviting stranger out for dinner.Seem like society here is heartless and our government is not doing anything on this. They just want power and make more money from the public.Crude oil price increase, stock market downturn, food price increase, commodities price increase, inflation increase and savings stagnant.Once in a while,I do support buying funfare coupon for the needies and donating some food but not giving money. Tamara,Wow!! You have 4000+ point. How did you manage to achieve this? This must be tough work?.Do you reply more than 10 discussion per day?.Thks for your advice. :)

Hi Joe, That was meant to be a light hearted joke to a women's husband, but I know there are lots of tricksters because I have come across them and told them to go away. You have to be very careful these days, I always tyr to give them food when I se them. I respond to all my friends and Mylotters everyday and I resopnds about 40/50 a day, sometimes more because I like to clear my in box competeley each day. Tands Joe. Hugs. Tamara

Hi ronaldinu, Thanks for a great response, did you see the funny side of it? yes I don't give them money either but try to give them food instead. There aren't any homeless people where I live but there are some in central London area. I am glad there are not so many homeless people in Malta. My sister is coming your way for two weeks vacation next week. Thanks. Tamara

Heheheh... I have read this joke too. Someone sent it to my mailbox. When I was a kid, we used to regularly give money and food to a beggar lady. She was so touched that she even refused money once. And once when I was in Bangalore a very thin hungry-looking man approached me and said he was hungry. I did give him money. I just can't bear it not to give anything when someone or something hungry approaches me for food. Right now, the only hungry thing I feed is a stray cat, whom I have named, "Belliappa." Cheers and happy mylotting

Hi positiveminded, I am so glad you knew it was a joke directed at the woman's husband, when I see homeless person I do give food but when they come and shove their hands in my face, that is when I get annoyed and tell them to go away. I am pleased you feed the poor little stray cats, a thousand blessings to you my friend, well done. Tamara

I have never given money to a homeless person that I know of, I live in the country and we don't have homeless people, I guess, If so I can't tell if they are homeless. I have given money to a beggar, I know they are just begging because they stand outside of stores and beg for money until the owner of the stores come and run them away for bothering their customers.

Hi Chevee, That is good there is no homeless people where you live, I don't have any homeless people where I live as well but there are people selling Big Issues to help homesless people. There a few homeless in Central London, but when I do see one I give them food. Thanks for your response and you are a good person. Love and Hugs. Tamara

LOL that's too funny. I wish I could be that witty. To answer your question we have an abundance of these people in our area. I never give them money. I have given them food. My husband ask a guy one time that was holding a sign "Will work for money" if he would come and help roof our house. We really were roofing our house at the time. The guy told him to come back in a couple of hours so he could get "ready". My husband said "I need you to go now, I'm in the middle of doing it right now and I will pay you $100.00 for a whole days work on it" The guy replied to my husband " I have to watch out for my safety and I don't want to go with you" My husband said "Well I can't bring the roof too you so have good day" Isn't it ironic that he was so concerned for his safety yt standing there collecting all day! Yeah right! So did she go to dinner with you?

As in your case. I think that you are kind person. This is beacuse not much people will giving up something especially money to help someone. You take the women for a dinner. For some people, they always think of what they can get after helping people. They think that they want reward after helping. As for me, I ever give donation to some charity organization ans this make me feel better as this kind of organization can help those poeple who need help. Once I donate, I feel like I also contribute to this society by donation.

Hi only4patrick, You are a kind person too, when you give, you give with your heart, there are so many organizations in this country and it is good to give as it is helping the good cause, we never know if ever we could be in their position and we would like help from other people, that is the way I look at it. Many thanks for your lovely response. Hugs. Tamara
