Some people wanna change and have changed their names, for they have a strong belief that good names can bring them fame and fortune, like some superstars including movie stars, they have a stage or screen name or an art name? like Jet Lee (Li Lianjie-literally means constant brilliance), Andy Liu (Liu dehua--literally means Good virtue), Jackie Chan (Cheng Long--literally means becoming a dragon or a king), you must know them if you are a kungfu fan, a good name is easiy for people to remember, and sounds brilliant and great, what i said above are just examples of some Chinese superstars, are there any similar instances in your country? do you think some names are bad while others are good? have you ever tried to change your names?

Some people are a little overboard with this. The US is certainly used to being a heavily hispanic country now, but my husband and his family came from Cuba quite some time before Castro, when some saw Cubans as exotic, but others thought they were just too strange. I don't know what the motivation was, but he was told at work that he had to change his name from Juan, which they considered too foreign, to John, a typically American name. He did it to get the job, but everyone in his family still calls him Juan. In 2008, of course, Juan is a perfectly ordinary name in America. It was legally changed so long ago that he kept John, which he has trouble pronouncing unless he really concentrates, because J isn't pronounced in Spanish as it is in English!
