Have you ever been ,still afraid, of any kind of dogs as an adult?

As a person gets older, they say the fear of the dog is no longer to be afraid of. Are you still afraid of a dog, or do you know someone that still is. Please explain.

No and that's very interesting because I've been attacked by a number of dogs in my life and nearly attacked by some too! LOL! The first time I was attacked by a dog was when I was between 5 - 8 years old. I'm such an animal lover and I'm not afraid of dogs at all, not even Pit Bulls. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

I never was much afraid of dogs to begin with but I have a friend who was bitten by a German Shepherd as a child and she will not pass by a dog. She'll cross the street and pass on the other side, if possible. I think it's difficult to pass by such a trauma. I don't like big aggressive dogs. We have many of those in the neighborhood. Pitbulls for example who have been raised to be attack dogs but run around without leash or supervision. I guess you can say I have a healthy respect maybe even fear when I encounter a dog like that because I know that they can misinterpret harmless moves as an attackable transgression. I watch such dogs very closely when I pass them;)

Yes, I would be very cautious too, after knowing of what happened to my friend. Some things you just can't get passed, and that is knowing of what has happened to someone else, especially a friend. Just be careful, and stay safe at all times! You are doing a great job of being alert. Thanks for responding!

No. I have never been afraid of any pet dog but at times when the street dogs stare at me suspiciously, I somehow feel uneasy.

Yes, it is when they begin to bark that will make you feel uneasy. Especially if it is early in the mornings.. Thanks for your response!

i have to answer this particular topic because something like this happened just tonight when me and my son is passing by a house that has a dog outside and when the dog saw us..he immediately barked at my son ready to maul at him..i made my son stopped walking as the dog will really attack him..good thing the owner is there to fetch the dog and the dog is still barking and ready to attack my son..he holds the dog and the dog even bit the hand of the owner and then we got through it...i said to the owner i will never pass this way again because i am so afraid of your dog..he then said that he already tied the dog and that was the first time the dog acted unusual and unusually to my baby son...i am afraid of dogs if it start barking on me because i was bitten at the back when i was still a little girl and i somehow had a phobia with them.

I am sorry for both of your experiences!! I am glad that you will choose not to walk that way ever again! Please keep you and your child safe at all costs!! If that dog acted like that around your baby son then that is a red flag right there! When I was pregnant last year, there was this dog in the trailer park that would bark at me all of the time. I wondered why he did this. I felt very much in fear. He too, was tied up, but I wondered if he would have came after me, if he would have gotten loosed! Thanks for your response!

Oh, yes, I am still afraid of dogs even now that I am adult. Particularly stray dogs that looks very aggressive and dirty. It was quite hard to be bitten by those dogs, so whenever I see one, I can't help but feel afraid and pray that it wouldn't bite me.

I am a little afraid of dogs that I don't know that are strays. My neighbor has a pitbull that always barks at me when I get the mail or walk down the street. At first I was afraid of him because I've seen him out of the yard before. But now, I just ignore him and he doesn't bother me.

I was terrified of dogs when I was little. I would always climb the nearest tree or something when I saw a dog. I got rid of that fear when parents got me a dog. I was afraid at first but my fear disappeared after a few weeks. I still have that dog and some older neighbors are still afraid of her. I'm not afraid of any kind of dogs.

Hello cream. When I was a kid, there was a big dog in our lane of the city. The big dog was a bane to me because each time I went to school, I had to pass its house and I was so scared and often started to run once I passed its house. Fortunately, sometime later, I had no idea where it went. It was no longer there and I could go to school happily again. There was another time when my parents took me to spend my winter vacation in my aunt's house in the country, where there were so many dogs. One evening my elder cousin sister took me to see a performance. As I felt sleepy, I left the place for home to sleep. As it was so dark in the village with so many dogs barking, I started to run all the way home, so scared with so many dogs running after me. When I finally got home, my face went pale and the next week I got sick because of the dogs. I was extremely afraid of dogs as a kid, but when I grow up, I am no longer afraid of dogs, except that it is a very fierce dog. But anyhow I am still alert about dogs for fear that they might come at me. But as to our pet dog, our little poodle, I love it so much because it is so cute and friendly and because it is so small, it won't hurt anybody. Thank you for the discussion, cream.

Yes, this is how I am too.. I was very afraid of dogs when I was younger. But as I have gotten older, my uncle told me that if you pass a dog, act as if you do not fear them, then they will not bother you. So, I have started to do this and it works! I have applied this tactic every time that I would see a dog.. Thanks for your comment!

I am still afraid of some big dogs, which are scary. Maybe the big dogs don't mean to hurt me. At least they have the ability to do this. Small dogs, on the other hand, are docile.

I've never been afraid of a dog or any animal. I respect them and they know that. I've never been bitten by a dog or other animal, either. I don't think I'd be afraid in the future if I was bitten, because dogs bite for a reason even if we don't understand that reason.

Wow!! You are very brave, I see. Yes, it is a mystery why dogs bite. My cousin got bit by her dog when she was in Elementary School. Now she is all grown and off to college in her first year. We could never understand why her dog bit her in the face. The dog was a good trusted dog. Thanks for responding!

I'll always be mortally afraid of a rottweiler. My first boyfriend told me that as a kid, he and a friend was chased by a rottweiler. The dog was able to catch up and bit a chunk out of his friend's ear! Talk about a Mike Tyson! Maybe, rotty was old Mike's doggy.

I love all dogs. It is the people that I have a problem with. I was bitten as a child by a poodle and for years hated all poodles but I don't hate them anymore.

Never really been afraid of dogs. My dad was a mailman and he told me never to kick at a dog, I asked why, he said because now you're on one leg and he's still on four. If I see a pack of dogs and they look like they might be wild I'll throw something at them or run at them, never let them circle you, its all over then.

Hi cream! I am not really afraid or scared or dogs. It is because ever since I was a little kid I have always liked pet dogs. I have treated them as friends. That is why, every time I see a dog along the streets, I just whistle. It's like I am saying hi or hello to them. Sometimes, I even talk to them like saying, "Hey, I'm a friend and is just passing by." I always think I'm comfortable when I am around the dogs. I just let them feel that I am their friend and does not bring them harm.

Yes, I am still afraid of Dobermans. I was chased and bitten by one when I was younger. I love dogs and will even play fight with them. But, you put me near a Doberman and I will leave the room. The aggressiveness from them when I was a kid has turned me away from them for good.

Im not afraid of a dog. However depending on the kind of dog you have it probably the only thing you'd have to worry about. I have Full blood chows and they do turn on you after so longer ive had it happen to me and ive been bite by one of my own that has turned which was nice lol actually put a hole in my hand which i still have the scar today. Also learned ya cant put 2 males together either lol. But i still love all dogs. Im sure everyone has there opinions but this is mine.
