Where is our "Mr. October"?

The Cubs continue to make history, albeit bad history. They won their division two years in a row. The last time they did that was 1907-1908. (Also 1906) They won 97 games this year. They scored 6 runs or more in an inning too many times for me to count. They scored 855 runs this year. Their defense was superb this year. They looked different this year. They made us believe things would be different this year. The thing we forgot is there are two seasons of baseball. The regular season, April through September and the second season, October. I don't know what happens to them during the playoffs. With the exception of Dempster uncharacteristically giving up 7 walks in game 1, their pitching wasn't all that bad. It's their hitting, or lack of, that costs my Cubbies. They could not produce when there were runners in scoring position. They choked! I cannot count on my fingers and toes how many times they didn't swing at the pitches down the middle of the plate, yet swung at the pitches in the dirt or way outside. What happened to their discipline at the plate? In general, what happens to this team in October? They have no one that steps up and gets the big hit. I give credit to the Dodgers. They truly did their homework on the Cubs and found every weakness of every hitter. And, they have an excellent Mr. October in Manny Ramirez. Why can't the Cubbies get a Mr. October? There has to be someone out there that can fill the bill. Maybe, if Mark Cuban buys the Cubs, he can buy a Mr. October. I just don't know who that guy would be. I guess I will have to wait, again, for next yesr. Anyway, I have had a Fannie May Cubs chocolate bar I have been saving for the end of the Cubs season. I will be munching on it very soon, after work today. Would anyone like a piece of Cubbie chocolate? PEACE

I am just filled with overwhelming sadness and depression. I was a very bad loser last night. I was screaming at the tv, asking how much the Dodgers paid the umps to call the whole series their way. Every questionable call the entire series went LA's way. I am just very disappointed. I am embarassed for them too. I still want to cry. Is Mark Cuban still wanting to buy the Cubs? Maybe he can get a good deal since they performed so poorly this week.

The last I heard Cuban was the top bidder a 1.3 billon dollars. Maybe he can get them on sale after their performance, or lack of, in the playoffs!! After failing to reach the World Series in 2003, I no longer get depressed over my Cubs woes in October. I just get mad at myself for falling into their trap of making me believe each year is the year. While umping is always questionable when things aren't going our way, the Cubs more than helped out the Dodgers pitcher's when they swung at the crap that they threw up there and watched the good pitches to hit go right on by. Who knows Trace...maybe next year..... PEACE

I know coming from a Dodger fan this may seem weird but I was hoping for a Cubs win. I was more sad for the Cubs than happy for the Dodgers.I thought you had all you needed to win it all.

I thought you had everything you needed. I thought Fukudome was your Mr October. He seemed like the clutch hitter you needed and finally got. I was an instant fan of his. What happened? I know this will sound a little strange coming from a long time Dodger fan but I was more sad for the Cubs than happy about The Dodgers! I am still hoping the cubs go And win a World Series in our life time.

It sounds like Kosuke needs more training in the off-season to condition him properly for next year. He is wonderful. There are so many other wonderful players on the team too though. We cannot depend on one person to do it for us. We need the whole team to step up and consistently produce quality performances. I have been a Cub fan all my life. If I listen to my mom, I jumped up in my crib at a year and half old and yelled, "Go Cubs!". I believe that I will continue to be a Cubs fan for the rest of my years, no matter how my boys perform. I will be happier if they do well, but will love them anyway if they don't.

According to Cubs management, Fukudome got tired from playing the longer season in America than he did in Japan and he is homesick. He got his only hit in the playoffs against a Japanese pitcher, so that prompted D*ck Stockton (who made way too many mistakes in his broadcasts of that series) to say he must feel "at home" against that pitcher from Japan. Personally, the Cubs hitting coach should have worked harder with Kosuke. Most of the year he has had the tendency to start leaving the batter's box towards first base when he swings. He needs to stay in the box until he makes contact and then start running. He is a phenomenal defensive player. Has made some amazing catches all year long and has a very good arm. I think he will be more adjusted to MLB next year and will hit better, if he corrects the aforementioned swing. Aramis Ramirez and Ryan Theriot were our MR. Clutch's all year. They choked in the playoffs, as did the rest of the team. PEACE
