Scent Overboard

I think I have spritzed myself with a little too much perfume. I usually stay away from colognes and perfumes but tonight, I thought I'd try it out for a change as Boyfriend and I are going out for a lovely evening. And I overdid it! So even I am offended by my overbearing scent. Sigh! Have you ever done this to yourself? Be your own walking perfume? Or have you ever come upon someone else who just went perfume-crazy like I just did today?

i am not into perfume too much but i know a woman that covers herself in it-because you don't wear it often is why you think you went over-board-maybe you didn't actually put as much on as you thought-also give a little time and it will wear down-hopefully[lol]. I use calgon body scents everyday-they are really nice but mild.My son uses axe and you can smell him a mile away-lol-now he actually piles it on-always remember if its a good perfume" a little goes a long way"-Have a good evening

You wouldn't believe how strong it was! But yes, we did have a good time. Thanks, jackiew.

It wore off after an hour or so. It was just very strong when I put it on me. I'm familiar with Calgon. So far, every male (mentioned) in this discussion is using Axe. I will remember that "a little goes a long way" when it comes to perfumes.

I have to tell you SaintAnne that there is nothing more potentially destructive than over-scenting! I can recall so many occasions where a woman has walked past me and I have been practically knocked off my feet by the power of their perfume. It's like I have discovered a new breed of floral skunk or something! I don't know whether to whip out the camera and send a pic off to National Geographic or shove one of my own socks up each nostril!

If they knocked you off your feet, James, then I guess the perfume worked! Send me a copy of the picture if you do manage to snap one of these new breed. Really? Your socks? Up each nostril? That may be a little to much effort.

I think I go overboard on my perfume most of the time! Sometimes I just forget how strong it is. Mind you my perfume is not really that strong compared to others, and there is a scent that I do not know the name of that a lot of mums wear down at school and some days it is so overpowering that it makes me feel sick!

I guess your nose has been conditioned to the scent of your perfume and to how much you put on. I wonder what this mysterious mom scent is and I could just imagine how it would be if they all congregate in one area. Thanks gemini_rose and i hope you don't get a lot of these days where the scents make you feel sick.

I made myself a walking perfume or cologne, I should say, once. I gfelt so bad and it was so strong I apologised to the people in the car and one person ( all were my friends ) made a arcastic remark that put me through a hole in the floor. I kept saying to myself that it didn't smell bad but it canned my whole night and I've been extra careful ever since.

Oh, I'm sorry, Bluepatch. In life, we learn by experience. Friends are allowed sarcastic remarks every now and then. I guess it's better that they let you know rather than just let you wander around not knowing anything's wrong if you indeed went overboard with the scent! Don't feel too bad to point out any of those same friends when they make the same mistake. Take care!

Don't you just hate it when you do this. I have done it and it really is hard on the sinuses. It is a lady the work with me always put on a little too much perfume all the time and it is hard to work around her everyday. A little dab a do ya.. Is all it takes.

I love perfumes. But I don't put too much perfume on me. A simple 1-2 sprays will do. I like to leave fragrant scent as I walk by.

I sprayed myself at least 4 times. I thought the first one didn't spray enough so I went for it some more. Lol! Thanks allurejan.

I guess it's his signature smell then. At least, he doesn't get to sneak around and try to startle you because you would know he's there a few feet away. Thanks checapricorn.

I usually stay away from scents, too, but sometimes I will try one on in a store and then I know how you feel, as even if the scent is not very strong, if it is one that I end up not liking, sometimes I look for a restroom and go try to wash it off.

Ah, the store samples. Sister likes to do this to me. Whenever she runs out of wrists or hands to spray on, I'd be the next target and I usually end up complaining that I smell. Sometimes, the liquid hand soap in public restrooms smell worse than the scent we try to wash off.

I used to work with a guy who used aftershave or cologne or something that was so strong, especially first thing in the morning, I could not even breathe while I was around him! I don't normally wear it since I can't smell it when I am wearing it. Instead I put it on stuff that sits around me. Except the other day I had been working out in the garden in the hot sun and sweating profusely. I had to go to the store for something and did not want to take a shower before I went so I doused myself with perfume and went in the store reeking of sickeningly sweet perfume instead. Which one do you think is worse?

That's a no-brainer. I'd doused myself with perfume.

hi saintanne oh my I used to work in a local library and my branch manager used some really strong perfume. she could walk down a hall , go into her office, and her scent would still be in the hall ten minutes later, almost like some sort of gas scented so strong it would gag you. I remember a conversation she once related of an obnoxious patron who was getting really angry about something, and told her she wore too much cologne. she said, I almost started to wave my scent towards him so he would leave. and I thought well you wear so much I am sure it would be able to push it like a cloud alright. so she must have known she wore way way too much pefume, it was so powerful it almost gagged you.

Ha! So she probably wear too much perfume to make the unwanted patrons leave. I'm sorry that you were caught in the crossfire there, Hatley. Thanks for sharing, Hatley and I hope you no longer have to be somewhere with someone who wears perfume like a cloud.

Hey anne, OMG yes! I have been next to many women who I swear have bathed in perfume and not always the kinds that I would want to smell! Sometimes someone will walk next to me or get on the bus and I will want to die they smell so bad. I am very sensitive to the smell of perfumes. I either love it or hate it. I can't stand when a woman is wearing one of the perfumes that I really hate. I am quite picky about what I like and don't like. I also have very expensive taste in perfume. There aren't many things that I spend alot of money on. I buy bargain clothes, shoes and just about everything else but when it comes to perfume it must be designer! In fact, my birthday is this Friday and I am hoping for a bottle of Dolce & Gabana Light Blue. My boyfriend is supposed to be getting it for me. If not I will get it for Christmas. I can't wait to get it. I can tell when someone is wearing it everytime.

Oooh, someone's birthday is coming up! And she'd better get her designer perfume! Your boyfriend better get it for you or you'll have to wait a few more months. Good thing elevators are fast because that's another area where we tend to get stuck with individuals who like their perfumes a little too much.

For some reason guys like to put on a bunch of Axe after PE class. It doesnt not mix well with their must. I think Ive done that by accident because this body spray that I have is very strong and if you spray it once then that is enough. I didnt know that at first so i sprayed alot on. and my mom smelled me and asked me how much i put on and that it was very strong. after that i only sprayed once.

Maybe the guys like to bathe themselves in Axe because they've seen the "after effects" in this brand's commercials. I think the chocolate guy who keeps getting bites from women is a little too weird. Have you seen that commercial? I like how your mom told you that you've put on too much body spray. Way to go, mom!

I've never even thought about that part, lanlan but you do have a very good point there. Too much Axe (or even a little?) turns off some women. But maybe it works for some. Thanks again!

Gee it must be bad if even you knew that you smelt too strong. Most people seem to have no clue how strong their scent is. I'm not sure if I've ever worn too much I usually do two squirts and call it good. I love to wear fancy perfume, but since it is so expensive I only use it for special occasions. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

Thanks for responding, glords. I think the scent wore off an hour after I put it on. Or like I said in earlier comments, my nose must have gotten used to it. Because by the time we got into Boyfriend's car, I wasn't even thinking of the perfume anymore.

The time i use a perfume, it is a very light one and i am a little over cautious to make sure that i do not go overboard with it. At the same time i've come across many who have gone overboard with the use of the scents and one can get the smell at a distance. On getting close i've even reached a stage of dizziness once or twice.

I know what you mean when you mentioned dizziness. Mine actually starts with my nose feeling a little sting, like you're about to sneeze but you can't. Too bad we can't go around and tell people off if they've obviously put too much perfume/cologne. Someone help me if I'm with them in a small, air-conditioned room.

Your boyfriend must be all over you sniffing that scent! I don't remember spraying too much of my cologne on myself, maybe it's because I'm a frugal person? Hehehe! Hey, I don't spend too much on scents so if I do buy them I make sure I spray just enough for the bottle to last for months, hahaha! It's ok Anne dear, I'm sure you've captivated others with your lovely scent..

I have several almost-full bottles of cologne and perfume. I don't use them that much but I still get a lot of them from my mom who buys a lot of these stuff. I don't remember the last time I bought my own scent. Too bad, Boyfriend wasn't sniffing all over me. We were both hungry by the time he came home from work so off we were, sniffing for Thai food. Captivated! Hahahaha!!!!!

haha, I usually don't wear perfume, but I do sometimes. I am sure we have all went overboard at some point with the stuff, maybe more than once, but we learn from it and lay off too many spritzes and become more conservative with it haha. I usually do only about two spritzes, depending on the perfume, but two is a pretty good rule, you will smell the perfume, though it won't be too much. I have a sensitive nose so sometimes too many sprays can give me a headache, and probably others around me haha.

Obviously I spritzed more than twice. Lol. But after an hour, it seemed to have gone down so I guess it wasn't that bad. Or maybe, my nose just got so used to it. It just reminded me why I don't wear perfume that much. Thanks sugarplum. How's your dad doing?
