i have been wondering about this for a long time ago and i think of a reason why when it rains, its effect is heavy traffic, bumper to bumper cars on roads. in my country, Philippines, this is very common. when it rains, heavy traffic occurs.
does this happen to your country too?

Hi. Same as you do, I wonder also why the traffic flow is more heavy during rainy days. Its quite true that in the Philippines it does occur always because of the flood. I observed here in Denmark that there is a difference with the traffic flow during rainy days. I asked my boyfriend about this and he said that people become more cautious with their speed limit of driving since the road is so slippery and the traffic flow of people is chaotic. A lot of people of course are running and sometimes dont follow road signs for the reason of being anxious to get wet.

hi jhoannejoj!
well yeah you have a point there where people get to become conscious with their speed driving since the streets are wet and slippery, it might cause them danger but i think the problem is that most of the drivers don't follow the rules.
happy posting!

I have never really noticed a big difference here, but then where I live it isn't that high a traffic location to begin with as it is a rural small city. Town would be a better term. But could it be that you have more people willing to walk or ride bicycles on nice weather days so that when it rains all those people are using the cars instead?

nah. i don't think they would do that because we have a super hot weather here in the Philippines and another thing, there are no lanes for bicycles only just like what other countries have. it is dangers to ride a bike in cities here.

Hi skbh,
In Visayas particularly in my town in Negros, it's not very common since we don't have much flood there, only when there is a parade, you will see along traffic! But, I have seen that problem in Cebu and Manila!
Anyway, here, we didn't experience that but we have some town here where you really can't pass when there is flood, it will turn like a lake really and very dangerous!

well that is not very unusual because in a place where you live in, people there are very well disciplined who follows traffic rules, while here in manila they are so stubborn and giving way is nothing here. hahaha!

For our country this is quite true. Actually what I think is that rain causes flood and flood causes the traffic, but there are instances that rain do cause traffic. Because when it rains people tend to rush to their homes, and traffic lights seems to no work when it rains. It is so frustrating really especially when you are stranded.

well you have to be right at this point but of course, there are places too which does not flood that much compared to other areas.
