Were you ever rebuked for trying to help..I was..There was this old lady who got up in the bus and there wasn't any seats left..She was quite old and was having difficulty to stand..I got up and gave her a place to sit..The lady who was sitting beside me started to frown at me and after some time when the old lady got down the other lady scolded me saying "couldn't you see she and her clothes were so dirty and it could have dirtied me..you young people don't ave any common sense..how could i go to work in a dirty dress?"...I accept the old lady was dirty may be because she couldn't afford to be clean..I didn't reply anything to the other lady to avoid a scene...What about you...were you ever rebuked for being helpful?

First of all, that is a very typical attitude from all humans that choose to seperate themselves via class. And to answer your question, yes. I have. But then again, I actually bothered to look up USA Etiquette when I came back to the USA in 1990. However, this is not going to stop me from having common sense and manners. What is funny about being rebuked for such things is that the rules of manners indicate that one must *never* open one's mouth to chastise others for such things. Thus, when people do act silly with me and try to correct me, I just smile at them in a manner one would a small ignorant child and say, "Thank you. You seem the authority on such manners. Please, do tell me what the rules of etiquette say regarding correcting another's manners in public?" It really hits home when you wink. LOL

There is nothing wrong with how you responded. You responded correctly to the situation. In the end, what does one stuffy obnoxious woman matter in your life? She is the cold-hearted fool. :D

No I have not but what an awful woman, and such a snob. How selfish and mean spirited. What you did was right. When I was young people would stand up for pregnant women and old people. Now they just look the other way and pretend they are not there but to actually complain about it.

Child being fed - Child eating. Somebody is feeding the child.
This sure is something that can happen from people but I don't think it would happen very often. You certainly had the right thing in mind and there are worse things you could have done. You are a good person and that is the fact of the matter. I don't think I have been rebuked too much in my life for helping but I know there are some handicapped people that have refused some help because they try to be as self sufficient as they can. Maybe some people could feel construed as weak for needing or asking for the help. You did the best in this circumstance.

Yeah in case of handicapped people I can understand why some feel bad if we try to help them as it hurts their self respect..Thanks for appreciating and have a nice day!!
