I want to make lasagna for six people on Wednesday but I'm tired of the same old recipe. ANy ideas to spice it up a bit?

I am not sure how you make your lasagna, but I can tell you how I make mine. First off I make my own homemade sauce. Then I make meatballs and cook them in the sauce all day the day before. I then take the meatballs and mash them up and mix them with ricotta cheese. I layer the lasagna noodles, then meatball mixture, then mozzerella cheese (shredded), then sauce, then noodles and another layer after layer. I usually serve sausage and pork on the side with extra sauce and sprinkle cheese.

I haven't actually thought to make meatballs first, thank you for the input!

My family has had it before with just ground up beef for the meat and we don't like it like that. With the mushed up meatballs, you are getting all the spices in the lasagna too from the meatballs.

I mix chop meat with Italian sausage meat. It gives it a good spicey flavor.

Mmm. Thanks. that sounds like a good idea, do you use like 50/50 mixture?

why not add some spinach and fresh chillis it will give it a kick but also be more of a ricotta / lasagne.

You could add a spicy tomato sauce to your normal sauce, add some sauteed spinach and/or dot each layer with cream cheese.

I wouldn't have thought of adding a bit of cream cheese. That sounds interesting.
