i have a virus protection system on my computer and i thought i was protected but i was told that it might not catch them all(i think that its called avast and it has caught all of them so far i think)but i heard that there are a lot of ways that you can get a virus and i was hoping that you could share some of those ways so i wouldn't do it..i know that there are some ways from downloading but i don't know much else about it...so can you help...what are some ways that i can get viruses...i would like to take this time to thank you for taking the time out of your day to come by and read and review my discussion and hopefully answer, i hope that you all had a great weekend and that you have a great and safe week, thanks again for taking the time!

If you're using mozilla as your browser there's an addons called mcAfee site advisor that can tell you if a website is malicious, somehow it can help you minimize the chance of stumbling into a website with virus.

if you're using the latest IE then you dont have to switch because IE is the most secured browser based on the reviews that i read. It also has the anti phishing biult in.

some viruses may be taken from USBs, if you don't mind connecting it the virus would be scattered at your computer

Unfortunately you can get them many ways, especially ones of the spyware and adware type. Just visiting relatively benign sites, maybe even ones you have been to many times before can expose you to them. The last really bad one I got happened when my browser was closed and I wasn't doing anything, I had just left the computer on for about 45 mins and since I have cable it was connected to the internet. When I'm using the computer, I try to be very vigilant and if I spot anything like my protection saying it has blocked something but the hard disk keeps on working or a popup comes saying I need to get protection, then I immediately go to restore and set things back to a safe time. This has worked several times in the last few weeks.
