Ever heard of a salt water detoxification? I always assumed salt was bad.

In my many attempts to keep healthy in a natural approach I ran across and article on detoxifying and that the digestive track can be linked to cancer or high blood pressure. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of salt water detoxifying and if so have you tried it. I must admit I was tempted to try this and I could only stand doing it for the first day, It was worse than taking a couple boxes of ex-lax. http://hubpages.com/hub/salt_water_flush http://www.cleansingorsurgery.com/saltwaterflush.htm

I have heard of it from my brother in law who is taking salt water for detoxification. He would mix epson salt, little extra virgin oil and water. I can imagine drinking salt water with oil. It must have tasted horrible. I have bought a packet of epson salt but is yet to try this out. Thanks for the links, before trying it would like to know in detail the aftermath of drinking this salt water.

Wow. I don't think I realized it was epsom salt. I thought you weren't supposed to ingest epsom salt anyway. This seems very fishy to me, and I think I'd like to see what happens in the long run to people who make a practice out of this before I even think about trying it myself.

You aren't consuming the salt water so that part wouldn't be *bad* I have read that doing colon cleanings can be bad because it messes with the naturally occurring flora in your digestive track.

True but I also read that alot of diseases may be caused by poor digestive health and bacteria that grows in your intestines and the salt actually purifies and cleans you out. in any case this was too much for me... lol, thanks for the reply

I was told by two people that I know that have done this and love it that you do consume the salt water. It's not just gargling or anything.

I guess that's one way to get a cleansing! I think it's cleansing too if we eat lots of fruits and vegetables.. and a diet with whole grains and lo fats rather than white flour products and fatty meats.. To me a good fast is a morning with orange juice rather then breakfast! Or going to bed without supper..

I have to agree rather take the slow road to healthy digestive track instead of the shock and awe of severe cleaning. Thank you for the reply.

hi evan hunter I asked my primary care doctor about this and he almost had a fit. no no no, he yelled dont to that. You are ruining the good bacteria that exist in your colon. and that salt will only make your high blood pressureeven higher. thus I am not going to jump on this foolish band wagon.Hesaid if I increase my fiber and drink more water, and eat plenty of fruits and veggies I will be p;lenty healthy withous these wild schermes.Salt is bad really bad. and so are these flushing things. talk to your medical doctor not to quacks.

thanks for the reply. I do have to say there are a lot of medical doctors that are quacks though, I have met some weird ones, the added benefits of being a HMO member .... lol.

LOL! Even worse than that? Wow. While I have not personally tried it, I do have a good friend that has, and she loves it, as well as a coworker who swears by it as a means to help with her allergy symptoms also. I would not personally do it, though, because I was recently diagnosed with having the early symptoms of Minear's Disease, which is a form of deafness. Some say Van Gogh had it, and that's why he cut off his ear. Anyway, according to my doctor's orders, I'm supposed to stay away from salt and caffeine as much as possible, which is very hard, but I really do try.

Thanks for the reply Hun sorry I overlooked your response. I have heard you can also use sea salt for this. Personally I wouldn't suggest anyone try it, there are a lot better ways to clean out your digestive track with the right kinds of foods. I have severe allergies also but I didn't notice anything from my one day attempt nor doubt I would in that short time frame.

No problem. Yeah, it's supposed to be done in days in a row, so you probably wouldn't feel/notice the effects after one day. I wouldn't try it either. How about a nice big serving of collard greens? Lol!
