I know that one of the best things we can do for our pocketbook and the environment is to buy things used. Does this also apply to laptop computers? How would you go about finding a *good* used or reburbished laptop?

I don't see a problem with it. Just find a company that guarentees them and maybe has some sort of warrenty on it. We just keeping buying the indivdual parts though to upgrade our computer and add it on ourselves. It's fairly cheap that way as well.

I think that would take some computer savyness, and I surely don't have that! My now desktop is running slow and is starting to have issues. For someone who knows computer, it may be an easy fix, but for me, it means a new computer.

Hi wrld, if it's in good shape and condition and very reasonable price, i will! I remember my office mates before, they used to do that but they will check first the condition of the item and consider the price too!

I would not buy a refurbished laptop...too many problems. I dont feel like spending more money investing into fixing it just right So the answer to your question is No I would buy a refurbished lap top for those reasons.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a used/refurbished computer. Especially a used one. You never know what someone put on there before you and what they might be able to get access to once you log on. As for refurbished, it's a personal thing, but I wonder if it didn't work new, what did they do to it to make it work now? However, if you are looking for a good one, I'd stick with reputable dealers in your area. Private computer places that specialize in doing work like that. Some of the chains might also carry them, but definitely stick with people you know and trust. If you go with a private person, who knows what you'll end up with. If you go with a chain, at least if something goes wrong, you've got someone to go back to. But read your warranty very closely. Make sure it will cover the computer for a decent period of time. Also, check to see if you are buying "as is." If you are, make sure the laptop does what you want it to do before you put your money on the counter.

i wouldn't buy a refurbished laptop but i would buy a refurbished desktop. with laptops they are a little bit more sensitive to things that i wouldn't take the chance. i'm actually looking into a refurbished desktop..have found some for great prices! go to the websites of the stores they have in your area that do sell laptops/computers and they usually have them there. bestbuy, future shop etc.
