With the upcoming election politics is obviously a hot topic in alot of peoples lives right now. And one thing I have heard SO many times is "I'm not voting for Mcain because he has a woman as VP" and "I'm not voting for Obama because he's black". This frustrates me so much. I know who I'm voting for and call me crazy but I'm voting for who I think would be best suited to run our country, whose morals and values I agree with, who has the best plan to keep our country together. I just think that instead of judging on race and gender, which I think is wrong, we should judge on the actual things that matter. Do any of you base your vote this way on gender and race? Do those 2 factors have anything to do with who you are voting for or cause you to be biased?

I would really hope that people would be beyond such a simplistic point of view.

It's really sad that people actually are that simplistic. I kid you not at a dinner the other night a friend of my boyfriends dad said "I am not voting for Mcain simply because he chose a woman VP. I don't care if I completely disagree with Obama's views a woman shouldn't run this country" My mouth just dropped when he said that because I don't care who ya vote for personally to each his own but to flat out say you don't agree with anything Obama stands for yet you are voting for him. Mind boggling!

I seriously cannot believe it! Luckily I haven't run into anybody lately that feels that way, but it's just sad that people will let race and gender affect their vote - canidates qualifications and stances be damned! I tend to give people more credit than that. I would hope that in these modern times people could overlook it, but I guess some people will never change. It really is frustrating!

I actually pick the person that is closest to my political views and who has the best policies. Usually my biggest selling point is the education policy but I do have to look at other things.

I am the same way, I consider the views and policies. Thanks for the response! :-D

Unfortunately you will always get a minority of voters that will vote on race or sexist or religious grounds. Most voters won't though but I accept that in a close election, the above minority of voters could make a crucial difference. In my case, my vote is largely based on their policies but also is based on whether the candidate himself is a reasonably honest person (ie not caught up in financial scandal as I disapprove of fraudsters)
