Welcome to myLot! Oh, You've been here longer than me, never mind...

Welcome to myLot, so-and-so! Have you ever welcomed a user to myLot based on the number of their posts? And then realizing that they started myLot way before you did? I like to welcome "new" users when they respond to my discussions. If they haven't made more than 50 posts, I somehow think that they just joined myLot and then I click on their profiles and find out that they've been here months before me. Oh, silly and slow SaintAnne!

YES.... Boy was I embarrassed!!! I ran across a post one day that was bragging because he had finally made his FIRST payout. He only had 80 posts. So I welcomed him to myLot & commented that I had just made my first payout also & offered to help him get used to the place. He politely said No thank you& he didn't need it as he wasn't new. When I looked, he had been here for 7 months. Since then, I try to NOT assume anything here. Before responding, I try to remember to look at the profile page first.

Guess he doesn't have the time or possibly the desire as some of us do. My guess is he has a wife & several children with very little time to get on here. I was not judging him. Once I realized the situation, I just backed out & went on to another discussion. I just learned it is NO wiser to assume in myLot than it is in real life!!!

I think you already know what they say when people assume, LadyM. I've never had anyone correct me if they've been here longer than I assumed. But one time I decided to check someone's profile and voila! She has been here for months and I was embarrassed. So I try to remember to check a person's profile page first before doing so again but my hands (and mind) are quick to type the welcoming words. At least you were being helpful. And that he was polite when he said no. I hope he was polite. Thanks for sharing, LadyM.

Yes, I will remember these two things when I find myself wanting to welcome someone here on myLot: A) Only welcome them when they state that they're new to this site. B) Only welcome them after checking their profiles and making sure that they've only been myLot members for a week. With the other responders, I now know I'm not the only one, Checapricorn. Thanks!

We have similar experiences then, myliezl. Now I'm going to be more conservative with the welcomes... I will only whip those out for those who are really newbies...

Not now thank you... I just finished off a dozen homemade applesauce/carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, yum! I will not be ready for anymore for at least a month. You make a very pleasant and hospitable welcomer though Ms. Saintly!

I love the welcomes to my lot, just because someone has registered before one does not mean they have spent a lot of time in here, like me, I finally made my first payout in here but I have been a member for 4 months I think.

Maybe some people don't have too much time and not be active here.So they've been here for several months with only a few posts.Anyway way,it's good to welcome new users here,i think you are a warm and nice people in despite of making some mistakes once in a while. Both the actuall new users and the "new" users you thought would be happy with your welcome.

Yes, I do believe that people are out there living their busy lives thus keeping them from posting away here on myLot. I hope you're happy, hongqistreet, when I welcome you to myLot right now!

Well, for me, usually I would assume most people on here with less than 100 next to their name are New users whether they have been a member in here one week, one month, or even maybe a yr. I never stop to think they are not new and just never post that often unless it is someone I already know on here via other ways as well. You should not feel embarrased. We need to be there to help encourage no matter how long someone has been here just to help liven up this site if we can as well.

One of my friends joined My Lot four months ago and he has only just reached 100 posts. However some My Lot members do twenty responses a day and reach 100 posts in just five days. It depends on the individual. I joined My Lot in March 2007 so I am not a newbie but some that joined around the same time as me haven't done many posts. I know one person with three responses but she joined months ago. I think she likes to read My Lot and doesn't often she doesn't see anything she wants to respond to. However if she did respond to a post today someone might say "Welcome to My Lot".

Ahaha, I probably would be one of those who would say that to your friend, maximax8. And last month, I was one of the crazy myLotters who made a lot of responses in one day and reached 100 posts in no time. I had a lot of time! Thanks!

I hope you are not referring to me. I have been here since 2 years ago but opted to stay out because the pay is so low. Lately, a friend is convincing me to drop by but did not have the time. Now, I drop by once in a while and see what this is all about.

Several times I have welcomed as "new" users people who were here long before me and then for whatever reason changed their identities on here. Sometimes I did it blindly, but other times I just didn't want to blow their cover. And then there was a time or too, that I did expressly blow their cover...but that was only because they were whiners, rfl.

Sometimes they slip up and "sign" the post with the old name, oops. Sometimes it is easy to tell because they have a certain circle of friends who follow them around. Sometimes they do it within the rules, as in the case of women who have abusive acquaintances and have foolishly revealed too much personal information online so that they have to ask staff to allow them to start over with a new identity, and let's face it, some people cheat. But everyone has a unique vocabulary and syntax, which over time become in my view a bit like a fingerprint and can be matched up. Some people also make very peculiar spelling mistakes which in combination give them away. That is how teachers often know when a student forgets to put a name on a paper whose paper that was just from reading it.

How can you tell if someone changed their identities here on myLot? You come across them in several discussions and figure it out? Or their profiles pages are the same? Hmmm. And how can one change identity here?

First of all, I don't think we should have to check people's profiles if they have 50 or fewer posts to see if they signed up a while ago, but weren't active. And, they should understand that their small numbers make it appear that they are newbies. And, in many ways, they are. It took me three months to get active, but that didn't mean I wasn't a newbie. Because I wasn't as active as others, I was still unaware of many things. In fact, I only learned yesterday what a "unresolved" discussion meant. So, someone who hasn't been active shouldn't take offense if someone else thinks they're new. I sure still felt "new" for a while.

Hello there jerzgirl who still feels like a myLot newbie once in a while... I've just gotten to checking profiles after I had that realization that not all of them may have joined myLot recently. But you do have a good point there. I guess if you don't check in on myLot regularly then you could get a little rusty with the rules and other policies and even be unaware of them. I'm sure there are many more realizations coming my way here on myLot. Thanks for sharing!

I was "here" almost 3 months before I really started doing any posting because other things in life came up. So I know what you mean about people may have few posts but have been here for awhile. For myself, I only welcome those who actually state they are new. I never really thought about it before. But I just don't really pay any attention to how many posts someone has made unless something they say makes me wonder about it.

Hello capirani, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. For a while there, I didn't have anything else going on in my life so I myLotted away! Like I said in post#12 in this discussion, I will definitely welcome people when they state they're new. If not, I will check if they are really new (a week new or so).

I know what you mean my friend when I see someone with fifty posts or less or maybe even two hundred or less I think they have not been on mylot long but when I go to their profile I see that they have been on mylot longer than me and I am really shocked and I wonder why they have not done more posts than they have since I think if you have been on here for a good while you would have gotten a good number of posts.

Usually I will welcome any new user with a score under 50. Sometimes I do it as well if they are under 100 as well but I guess it depends on my mood on the day! I never actually thought to check their profiles though so maybe I too have been welcoming long term users also!

I was conservative with the number of posts I gave there. I do it sometimes when I see someone with less than a hundred posts but I told myself 50 would be more acceptable. Long-term or new, I hope they feel good when they are being welcomed! It's better than nothing. What's that, Irishfrndly? I didn't quite get it.

hi SaintAnne welcome to the club I did that too then realized the person was not new. but I guess it all depends on how much time anyof us have to work on mylot. so many are working long hours then too a lot have children to care for, so a lot of people do not have many hours to spend on here during the week. so just remember that next time.

Yes, I will remember this, Hatley! I know I can just imagine people coming home tired from work staring at the computer and the last thing they would want to do is stare into their own computers at home. And thank you for welcoming me to your club!

Yes, SomeCowgirl. You are right to say that very few tend to have these lower number of posts in a given time but they're still out there! If you're not sure if you've done it or almost have done it, then maybe you have done it! You and your fiance take care!

Hi! I do welcome user who post under 50 as well, but I didn't check their profile and think that he/she might have been here quite longer than me, till you mentioned here in your discussion. I just thought that they are new because they have a fewer post. Hehe, From now on, I think I should check their profile first before I welcomed them.

Yes my dear anne! I have done the same thing! You would think that we would know better! How should we know if they have 50 posts that they have been here for 2 years? I don't know. I have over 2000 posts and I've been here for 4 months! I just love mylot and typing my little fingers off! So scuse me! That's funny because it did happen to me too! Well it makes perfect sense. Not everyone spends all night mylotting like me! I'm the insane one! It's 3:00am in NY and here I am still trying to finish today's emails! Hello Opal. See, if you didn't tell me you've only been here for a few months, I would have assumed (again) that you've been here longer than that. But the longer we are in myLot, the more we notice this nuances or facts that some people get to post so much more and in a faster time than others. I've only been here for a month and half (I think) and for others, that could still be considered a newbie technically but like you, I've been typing my little fingers off that whole time. Get some sleep, Opal. myLot will be here tomorrow (it's already a new day in NY). Hello morninglory! Have your boyfriend ever woken up to you still typing away in the computer? And you're right, welcoming someone is not such a bad thing to do!

Hello bsa... if you didn't say you were new, I wouldn't have checked your profile and wouldn't find out that you just joined a week ago. From your 153 posts, I would have easily assumed that you've been here longer than that. So Welcome to myLot!!!!! I think some users get distracted with their busy lives, work and other stuff to actually spend a lot of time here like we do.
