I'm having a terrible pain in my throat and I'm not sure if this is tonsilitis or a symptom of another ailment. But if this is tonsilitis what is the most natural way to heal it, that without anti-biotic medication? Thanks.

Hi there, diseased tosils are usually swollen and pain especially when swallowing and some time you might be down with fever, yes using salt-water to gargle helps to relieve your symptoms. Milk has been found valuable treatment in tonsillits. A glass of pure milk, mixed with a pinch of turmeric powder and pepper power or a simple home remedy can be made by mixing lime juice in a glass of warm water with some honey, it's help too. Remember to drink plenty of water, vegetable or fruit juices. You must seek medical attention for a persistent case of tonsillitis, cause untreated infections can lead to complications with your heart and kidneys.

Whenever our throat hurts our mom would make us gargle warm salty water for about 5minutes. Just put a lot of salt in your warm almost hot water and gargle away! Although you don't swallow it, you can still somewhat taste it and I'm already telling you that it tastes really awful... but it works!

1. stop eating foods that may scrape them on the way down. my doc has me on the liquids only diet until my tonsils go down again. 2. stop eating room temp or cool foods. when you're body is fighting an infection it makes the area warm. when you eat something cool or not-warm it cools the area which gives the infection a chance to spread or intensify. it's best to keep that area warm so the body can fight it without you playing interferrance. 3. don't drink room temp water. only drink hot water. not crazy hot. just cup of tea hot. if that makes sense . 4. water, lemon and honey is very soothing.

I never thought about that since I had my tonsils removed when I was very young. I would say try vitamin C with honey and lemon. It couldn't hurt :) Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Gargling a warm water/salt mixture several times a day should help. Any time my throat hurt when I was a child, a teaspoon of honey always helped relieve throat pain (and I used to have streph-throat twice a yr when I was little) and you could probably take a tablespoon of honey twice a day or more if needed. Drinking plenty of water will also help. If your tonsils are inflammed and infected, you may need to see a doctor. Ask you physian if there are any natural cures for your throat problem.
