What's your favorite Philippine Christmas tradition?

I love the Christmas season! I can't wait to put up Christmas decors, go Christmas shopping and hear Christmas carols. Most Pinoys go back home during Christmas season and when they're here, they are welcomed with our very rich Christmas tradition. My favorite Pinoy Christmas tradition is the Noche Buena. It's when all the members of the family get up on Christmas midnight to greet each other, exchange gifts and eat Noche Buena meals together. This tradition always gives me warm feelings every year and I can't wait for the next one! How about you, what's your favorite Philippine Christmas tradition?

same here. I do love Christmas season, and few of the traditions that I love are giving, and receiving gifts... lots of foods, Christmas Carols, and get together with the special people in my life.

I do start buying gifts on the month of December. and sometimes, I just don't wrap it, I just give it directly to them.

I love giving gifts too! I even wrap all the gifts myself. I start wrapping gifts early November until Christmas eve.

Almost every way Christmas spent in the Philippines, I love it so much. Even as early as September you already smell that Christmas is in the air. The way people come and go over the yuletide seems like a busy ants. The home ambiance is filled with so much joy and its so obvious because of the glittering lights and Christmas lanterns. I love to hear children singing Christmas carols and having caroling one home after the other. There is also a noche buena where every member of the family shared the Christmas eve together over the dining table. What I love the most is the mesa de gallo which started in the 16th day of December and span until Christmas day. Truly, spending Christmas in Philippines is so amazing and is really the happiest and the most joyful part of the year.

Yeah, me too. I also tried to complete the "simbang gabi", but to no avail. I'm just active during the first 2 to 4 days but then at the 5th day, I can't make it because I overslept.

I tried several times to complete the "simbang gabi"... to no avail. I gave up totally. I just attend a few masses and I like the fact that we'll have puto bumbong for breakfast after the mass.

I just love Christmastime in the Philippines. It is so much different. You can feel it in the air. I love the lanterns, I love the kids who sing Christmas carols and then come back again the next day, I love the Christmas parties, I love the dawn masses (there was one year when my friends and I would go clubhopping and then proceed to these masses), I love eating the "bibingka", I love buying the holiday fruits at sidewalk stands, I love the midnight dinner, I love the gift exchanges among families and friends, I love the big family get-togethers and I love just looking at the Christmas lights. Most importantly, I love spending Christmas in the Philippines because my dad is there. I love Christmas in the Philippines that I'm feeling sad that I don't get to be there this year as I've planned to. I'll just look forward to next year and bring Boyfriend and have him experience the whole Christmas in the Philippines that I've been telling him about. Sniff! I miss Christmas in the Philippines.

Even though my birthday is nearly days from now, i am much more excited by the upcoming christmas..I can't wait to lavishly eat during our nochebuena and open up gifts under our tree, i so love this tradition..

Yeah, you seem too excited! We don't even start putting up the Christmas tree until after the All Soul's day. But that's good. At least you'll always have something to look forward to every year.

hi rakittera. My favorite's the simbang gabi and the Noche Buena. My Mom, sister and I are consistent from the first to the last day attending simbang gabi for many years. And of course, the Christmas dinner, my Mom cooks her most delicious recipe only for that occasion, so we all look forward to that.

Hi there rakittera! I love the Christmas season too! It's the time of the year when members of the family get together to celebrate the best time of the year. Most of the time, my relatives from the US, Australia and UK come home at this time of the year. We make the most of it as we get to spend few weeks together and the next time we see again would be Christmas the following year. My favorite Pinoy Christmas tradition is the Noche Buena. Lots of food! More importantly, all members of the family gather and eat a sumptuous meal together.

i love caroling. but now that there's economic crisis, people tend to ignore the children who were singing the carols. well, what can we do? LOL! :D

I think it's because the kids nowadays are "madaya". They usually sing at one house a few days before Christmas and when you give them, they will come back every night until Christmas eve. I also think thay have a little "carolling syndicate". For example, you have a group of 10 kids, then three kids will sing at one house, if the owner gives them money, the other members will also sing at one house. So, from one group, the kids form 3 groups to get more money. smart kids, eh?

Yeah, Christmas is already here in our country, you really felt it in the mall and even to some houses which already decorated their home for the Christmas season. I love Christmas too, it's one of my favorite events in a year, and really like how we Pinoys celebrated it. Same here, noche buena is my favorite Christmas tradition, where we eat lots of food and all of our family are greeting each other. It was really heartwarming and happy part of the Christmas tradition. I can't help but feel excited this coming Christmas.

Yeah, I think they started playing Christmas songs on the start of the 100-day-countdown. I feel excited everytime I hear those songs but I feel busy days coming ahead too!

I like all about Christmas Pinoy style. I miss carolling the real one where we gte to sing the whole song. Most kids do it just for the money and sing only a line and a wrong one at that. I love the exchange gifts and of course the parties, I consider noche buena a party too because there's food :) This Christmas will be the first that my MOm is not around. She passed away last March. But we still do have the family reunion.

hello rakittera; Christmas season is so near. It's the best time of the year. Not to mention putting christmas decors, buying gifts for everyone, sending christmas cards and a lot more. But most of all, my favorite Pinoy Christmas tradition is attending the simbang gabi, and right after mass buying puto bung-bong outside the church. Also eating noche buena right after the midnight mass where everyone is there. Is really is the best. Can't imagine a Christmas with out noche buena and simbang gabi.

I just love the general atmosphere when it's Christmas season in the Philippines. It's so colorful and merry everywhere you go. People seem to be happy even if they have to spend a lot of money on food, clothes, presents, etc. I've spent Christmas in other countries and it was dull and bleak compared to the Filipino way of celebrating. I also like having dinner with our entire clan the night before Christmas. :)

I think it is because Filipinos are really festive by nature. We really can't help but celebrate special occasions, and we do it extensively. Maybe that's why Pinoys abroad always go back home to celebrate Christmas in the Philippines. Maybe we do have the best Christmas celebration.
