The cars we drive....

I come out of the house each morning, coffee in one hand and car keys in the other. Hubby has long gone in the good car and facing me is old yeller my ex taxi. I crawl in and settle down. I place the key in the ignition and say to the car. Come on baby don't let me down. She roars to life and I have to keep my foot gingerly on the gas peddle until it warms a bit and wakes up. Then off I go. I turn the radio on so I don't have to listen to the engine because every sound out of the ordinary makes me think it is going to stop on me. When she is not feeling well I plan my routes around the best places to break down. When I get to work I thank my car. I love my car and actually chose to drive the old beaten taxi over our nicer car and let hubby drive that one. I like my old car because I can pop the hood and actually identify parts and can sometimes fix things. In the fancy car as I call it I can't tell what anything is.
I think the reason behind me driving old beaten cars is because since the day I learned to drive I have pretty much driven old cars. I think I like the rush of not knowing if I will make it to where I am going or not. I also find when I do drive a good car I still don't trust it. I keep thinking the engine is too quiet and it must be going to stall.
So my question to you is when you hop in your car and turn the ignition do you say a little prayer or do you have complete faith in your car that it will start and get you to where you are going?

We used to always have old clunkers and I hated to go anywhere in them.. but then again when I did break down, I always met the nicest people!! However, a strange sound in the vehicle is not a welcome or happy sound! I do like the older cars for there more4 convenient repairs.. now everything, simply everything requires a trip to the shop or hook up to a computer sensor or something.. If I hear strange sounds yes I do say a little prayer!

The last time this happened two guys in a public service truck stopped and changed my tire.. which was good as I didn't know how in the world to work the new jacks.. still don't.. and I didn't have a phone either.. It can be scary being at the side of the road though!

I hate jacks, always have. I never know where to put them to start with. When I was a cabbie full time I never had to change my own tire, there was always a male driver who would rescue me as I stood there putting on my oh I am just a poor woman face! Sometimes it pays to be a woman.

I have complete faith in the little Chinese pickup that I drive. It has never let me down and it goes really fast for its size. I would not like to drive a different car because I am used to this car now. Cheers!!

I drive an old car too.
I haven't had a car payment since 1983 and don't plan on having one any time soon. My 1992 Chevy Cavalier has been good to me. Even in bad years, the most I've spent on repairs and maintenance has been about $500. Lots of people pay that every month as a car payment. No thanks.
Do I thank God every time my car starts? No, but I should. I do rejoice in not having big car payments. Or big car repairs.

I never did that with my old Ford, it had 250,000 miles on it and started everytime. My boyfriend now husband bought me a new Liberty and I was always thankful when it started without smoking. It was a lemon and we were able to get rid of it. I now have a Dodge Ram pick up and it starts everytime it's used and I have more faith in older cars than newer cars.

Yeah especially when I was driving a 2007 Liberty
