Why do my cats always look surprised to see me?

Today, my cats got stuck in one of the bedrooms.
And, when I opened the door to let them out,
they looked up surprised, as if I'd interrupted
an important conversation.
Both cats had their own perch.
One was lounging on the bed comfortably
and the other one was perched on the back
of the chair.

was priceless!

intruding into their lives?

lilaclady, you are talking about staring, you should see my Jake. Jake will get on the ottoman by my husband's chair and just sit and stare at him. Sometimes my husband has to turn his head because Jake will out stare him. They are indeed funny little things.
Whenever Jake gets closed up in the closet, when you open the door he just looks at you , like it is about time you came to open the door.

Cats are such a mystery to me.
But, I love them!
Don't know what I did before I had cats.
