It's a lovely discussion you started here.Such a pity that no one answered so far. I will share with you a legend from these parts. Now it's fresh in my mind because of another discussion. In Romanian mythology the lark was once a beautiful girl. When the time came to get married, men from all around the world came to show their bravery and ask her hand in marriage. But the girl was sighing and glazing at the sun.It was the most beautiful thing she ever saw,and she fell in love with it.She somehow managed to get to his palace and met the sun's mother. When finally the sun felt in love with her,his mother cursed her on the wedding day and so she turned into a lark. And as a lark, she sings her unfulfilled love while trying to reach the sun in her flight.I've heard that tiny bird's song. It's sad and nostalgic. Well what I shared is not much...but it's still something. There are a lot of legends around here.Legends that include vampires mostly lol(I'm from Transilvania). But I'm not sharing those.

I will give you a brief story about how Mt. Mayon(perfect cone volcano in Albay, Philippines) came to be. In the land of the Ibalon people, there lived a princess named Daragang Magayon(means-beautiful maiden). She was taking a bath in a river while Ulap(cloud), prince from afar, saw her and fell in love with her. So they net and their relationship grew. Meanwhile in the neighboring kingdom, Another man want to marry Daragang Magayon but she refused so the later's wage war agains Daragang Magayon's kingdom. In the battle, both Daragang Magayon and Ulap was slain. They were buried near by and until then, the burial site grew into a mound, then became bigger and bigger until it became a volcano. For a little background, the name Mayon came from Magayon and Mt. Mayon, located in Saraga, Albay, Saraga from Daraga(maiden).

It's strange how almost all of the legends have love as their primary source. That's a lovely legend.Legends are one of the reasons I would enjoy traveling around the world. They're very catchy and I am a dreamer lol

My family is Scandinvian so we know a bit about Norse mythology. It is set up somewhat like Greek mythology, in that there are many gods, some more powerful than others, who intervene with people. Odin is the most important. Tor/Thor is important too. He is strong but not as bright. Loki is kind of a bad guy. In the beginning he is just a trickster but eventually he becomes really evil. Freja is important too- she is kind of like a mix of Aphrodite and Athena. She sleeps around. Heaven is called Valhalla and hell is called Hel (so is the Persephone figure). There are other figures too, like many animals and giants. At the end there is going to be a big fight called Ragnarok. It will be the end of the world and everyone, gods included, will kill each other.

Wow, what a nice response. I heard about a game called 'Ragnarok' but only here, I learn its meaning. As for Freja, she is a beauty and brain deity, I see! About 'Hel', does this mean that the word 'hell' originated from Scandinavia? It is an interesting response. Thank you!
