We are currently renting a home in a great town with a great school system. We have a huge house for not much money a month. We would never be able to afford to buy a house in the town we are in right now. So we are content renting for the time being, especially with the current mortgage crisis.

You're one of the lucky ones then! Most people are paying too much to rent.

I am a home owner. Once past the down payment and fees when purchasing my home, I now am paying alot less than my rent was before. I think it would be worthwhile for you to look into this option myself.

We own. Sometimes I wish we didn't with everything we have yet to update on this home it gets overwhelming. Prospects of affording to do the updates we were hoping to do before we had kids just aren't happening & we can't afford to move to something nicer either so there's no winning. Plus renting would cost us as much if not more than owning & we wouldn't have a yard either.

The yard we have was one of the big selling points for us when we bought it. We knew we wanted a family and with a family comes swing sets & other outdoor toys. As well as we both enjoy gardening and you can't do that w/o having a half way decent chunk of land. Most houses w/ anything bigger than 1/8 lot size are hard to come by unless you can afford a nice fancy house to go with it & especially in a reasonable price range. KWIM?

Right now my boyfriend and I are renting, and we also think we should have our own home instead. We have been glancing at home sales and plan to start looking with serious intentions in about 6 months. We have starting putting aside a few dollars each week and we figure once we get our income tax refunds, we should have enough money from the savings and the tax refunds for a substantial down payment. Best wishes!

We are own our house but we also two have apartments whose tenants has been there for almost 20 years! We are already considering them as part of the family because they've been with us very long. If we are going to compute their rents for those years, I think the money is enough to buy new house and lot. On my own, I always wanted a house or an apartment that is rent to own.

thanks god we have our own now. its newly constructed actually, for two years of our marriage we were renting on an apartment, and boy, it just so expensive that i wish i could have saved it. well, anyway, that was before, we have no choice but to rent, since both of us agreed to start our own and not to depend on our respective families when we got married. we were applying for a home construction loan in the bank and was approved, so from there, we build our own house. though we have the monthly amortization, its not that painful to think coz we know, in the long run, the ownership will be tranffered to us, unlike in renting, there's no chance for ownership, yet the rate will be increasing annually and sad to say, you can't make any improvements to it, not unless you ask approval from the owner. why not try looking on foreclosed properties for sale in the commercial banks, am sure you can get big discounts if you buy from there, just check it out.
