Weight Watchers--any body tried it?

I joined weight watchers last week and went to my first meeting last Monday. Has anyone out there tried this program and did it work for you? I heard it is one of the better ones out there. I have a lot of weight to lose like 100 pounds if I am to be in my normal BMI and my husband has been encouraging me to lose weight for my health. If you have been on this program what did you think of it? I will keep you posted on how it goes for me these next few weeks.

Good for you! I too need to lose a substantial amount of weight, I'll be interested to hear your experiences. I've known 4 people who have used Weight Watchers within the past few years to lose weight. The first lost between 50 - 70 lbs. about three years ago. For the most part, she has kept it off. There is about 15 lbs. she seems to go back and forth on. The second person lost 70 lbs. As soon as she became less committed to the program, the weight started to come back on very quickly. A friend of mine saw her a few days ago, and it seems she has gained back all the weight she lost and added another 20 or 30 lbs. In all fairness, she is in a miserable marriage, has a high-needs child, and has struggled for years with depression, anxiety, etc. Two other people I know have lost about 20 lbs. each in the last year on W.W. Both have been very committed to following the program and both have kept the weight off. The best thing I have heard about W.W. over and over again, is that it is a way of eating that you could, technically, continue for the rest of your life. So, that's all I know. Good luck and keep us posted!

I have thought about it a few times and I could never part with the cash they were asking to get started. I just cant afford to pay their weekly dues and thier start up fees. I keep waiting until I figure out that it is cheaper to be skinny and it would have been worth it this whole time. Let me know how it all goes and what kind of things they do there. Id love to know what makes it all worth it.

Sometimes they do a deal where start-up fee is waived. I am on my second week and I have lost .4 pounds. I had hoped to lose more, but I think I am not drinking enough water. Its more about the community and the meeting than about anything they teach you. For me, its about being held accountable each week for how I ate the week before. One lady there lost 70 pounds before, gained it back due to chemo and is back to loose it again.

My husband and I joined 10 years ago to lose weight before our wedding. It was much easier because both of us did it, but he lost 40 lbs and I lost 20 which was our goals. It became kind of a competition, who could lose the most. To keep the weight off you wil need to continue eating the way they teach you. That is where your husband can help. It is hard to eat correctly when you have to cook meat and potatoes for him. I wish you the best of luck!

Since I do the cooking, I told him we were going to eat healthier, so he eats pretty much what I eat, there may be a few differences but not many. He is really encouraging me in this and even wants us to join a gym together.

Hi Aurone, Very good that you've started weight watchers! My BMI was not to high, but I was gaining weight very fast, so I knew it would be to high if I didn't change. And the BMI of my boyfriend is much to high. So about a half year ago we started weight watchers. We're doing weight watchers by the cd-rom, the flexipoints program, because we don't have a course nearby and no time to go there. But together with the internet forum, with al the hints and tips, it works! Especially my boyfriend has a lot of weight. And the good thing is: we're not hungry! We're more creative with food now, so the things we eat are sometimes much tastier than the chips and more instant food we used to eat. The only thing is: I'm finishing my masters at the moment, and with al the stress, it's difficult to stick to the program. So I'm taking a small break now (just a few days). So at the moment I watch my food, but I'm not following the program. But It's a good idea to let people know how you're doing with Weight Watchers. I'm curious! Hope to hear from you soon!

I am trying to drink more water this week cause I think that was my problem last week. I have a Masters and I supported my husband through a PhD so I know how that can be that is where I gained some of my weight!

It seems to be very nice. I have attended meetings in a couple of different time slots. Seems to be good people. We can drink tea and things instead of our water here too. I did pretty good this week, I lost some weight so I am happy. Good luck keeping up with it and your studies.

Ah, drinking water! I have to think about that to. Now I'm working at home and then it's easier, because I make a big pot of herbal tea and that adds a lot. Here in Holland they say you can drink herbal tea in stead of the water, I don't know how what they say at your place? When I'm at work it's harder to drink my water. It's good to hear that you understand the difficulties of studying and keeping up with the WW program. But yesterday I had a pretty good day: did a lot of work on my thesis and I haven't eaten a lot of cookies (most of the times I can't study without them!), just healthy in betweens. Do you already notice any difference in your weight? I know it's not good, but my boyfriend and weight ourselfs almost every evening (the trick is to stay motivated, even if you weight fluctuates per day)and we can both see the difference if we had a "good" or a "bad" WW day. Is the WW group you're joining a nice one?

Hi Aurone, How are you doing with Weight Watchers now? Did you already lose some weight? I've lost a 0,5 kg this week. It's not much, but at the moment it's very OK. I thought I would have gained some weight, so it was a very pleasant surprise. My boyfriend lost nothing, so he was dissapointed, but because he lost a lot until now he's still motivated to go through with the program. I hope for you it's going good, because the first weeks were the hardest for me. When you don't know if it's really working.

Ok, I just weighed in. I lost 1.8 pounds this week! Gotta keep drinking that water. My husband and I just joined a gym too, so that should help. Keep me updated on how you are doing.

I have been weighing on Tuesdays and I have lost 6 pounds so far! I have been walking on the treadmill and lifting a few weights for my upper body at the gym and it really seems to be helping.

That's a good motivator if you're losing weight! We're going to the gym too. I haven't been there for two weeks, because I'm working on my masterthesis and I miss it a lot. How are you going in the gym? And what activities do you do? The cardio-fitness or some classes too? It's good to keep each other up-dated about Weight Watchers, so I'm looking forward hearing from you! On which day do you weigh (I don't know if this is good English, but I hope you understand!)

I've never been on weight watchers myself but I have a few friends and neighbours who have done fantastically on the program. I have always been less inclined to do it because i can't afford the price they asked for it here. I'd love to try it someday, as even listening to what they've learnt i've learnt alot.

The price is prohibitive but I am getting to the age that if I don't lose the weight then it will be more expensive for me health wise. Plus, if I lose enough weight to get out of the really obese range I can save money (like hundreds a month) on my health insurance which will offset the cost. I go for my second week weigh in this afternoon. I think I did ok this week--I stayed within my points. So I guess we will see.
