I was just looking through this catalogue and I came across the arts and crafts section. There was this quilling board, tool set and quilling papers but doesn't really explain what quilling is all about. I have seen some quilled pictures on the internet but don't really know anything else about it. Do you do quilling? How did you learn to quill? What exactly does it involve? What do you use quilling for?

Well I am not a quillier but I have seen some things on the internet and I think that I could describe it to you. Quilling is basically the art of rolled papers to make designs, small designs that can be used to be 3D effects for cards and such if you wish to glue or tape them on to the surface of a card. It's kind of a cute type of heart and is actually kind of easy. as for the boards and such I haven't come across any of those yet but I assume that they are not needed for every design as some things can be made with hand. I suppose it's a Flat Origami.

I am so sorry you wrote her Quilling and I misunderstood and read it in other meaning but as for the response I do also Quilling and like the way in Quilting you can also do some patterns to do it more beautiful and significant of the design like Scrapbooking way also known as Paper Filigree is the craft of coiling strips of paper and glueing to make simple or intricate shapes and designs. These shaped coils can be used to decorate cards, scrapbooks, boxes, eggs or tags and can also be made into Christmas decorations or even more complex stand alone figures.

quilling is using long (or sometimes not so long) thin strips of paper that you generally first roll up, but somes acordian to make shapes. The rolled ones you can either keep fairly tightly rolled, or you can relax a bit. You can keep round, but often you pinch one end or 2 ends to make shapes. Then, a touch of glue to keep it the size you want. Often they are used to either make pictures, decorate cards because the little paper rolls can spring loose if not handled properly.

I have not quilled myself, but I have both seen someone quilling and gotten a quilled card, so I've had experience with the craft. I just don't think I have the - whatever it is you need - to do that craft. I guess I would rather scrapbook than play with little paper strips and I can barely getting into that either - lack of pix rather than willingness to do it.

I've quilled before when I was younger my mom bought me the tool it looks like a long needle with a slit in the end and a wooden handle she showed me how to do the basic things with it and I think she even bought a book or something about it and I read it made a few cards and then lost interest in it. I have seen Martha Stewart do a few things on her show about it a few years ago. Maybe you could search her archives on her website. It is a very nice simple idea that looks complicated it would be a nice touch to add to a card or a picture frame or even using it in scrapbooking.

Hi ya Amberina The problem is that I am not very creative artistically. I am not very good at manipulating materials which I imagine that sort of thing is involved with quilling. Now give me a calligraphy and I am well away or I can string a few lines together to make a small poem but I am not very good with things like clay, though I really wished I was. Thank you for your response
