Do you do treasure hunts with your children?I bought the kids something the other day and for a bit of fun I hid it and left them paper clues to follow to find it. They absolutely loved it, I was really pleased that they took so much enjoyment out of it.
I am now planning a huge one for christmas day, I am going to let them have all their presents except for their main ones and with those presents I am going to have them hunt for it! I am going to have such fun, I am going to send them all over the place to find it, I cannot wait!
What sorts of treasure hunts do you do with your children?
What is the best one you have done for them?

When mine were small we would visirt the farm up North.
The town Moose Lake had a family day festival.
I volunteered to run the scavenger hunt for a few years.
The kids loved this especially sincce daddy was the boss.
The top item hid was a roll of quarters.
My son found that a couple years.
There were gift certificates for local restaraunts and businesses as well hidden.
I would write clues & hide items for a few days.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I have never really done them before, but do you know something? I got a real buzz out of seeing them enjoy something that I had done for them!

wow...that is very cool! I know how much kids love it and even in our age, we can't stop laughing and being excited too! LOL!
Anyway, haven't tried that in our family but you are giving me an idea! LOL!
I guess I will do that to hubby this Christmas! LOL![/i]

That sounds like fun!
My husband's parents used to do this at Easter. They would hide their Easter baskets! They wouldn't really leave clues, but the kids just knew they had to search for the baskets.
One year for Valentine's day I led my husband on a treasure hunt. I made a bunch of little baggies full of candy with a note in each one that had a clue to where the next bag was. The last clue led to the gift. It was fun!

It was fun, it is good for my sons to practice their reading skills too. That was nice what you did for your hubby, that is a really neat idea.

I am playing this game a bit differently with my kids. I am hiding something and when they are looking for it i am saying warm when they are close enough to it and cold when they are far away. I am using words like getting warm when they getting closer or getting cold when they start to move away. This game is very exited for kids especially when they getting something for it. And by using words this game are suitable for very young kids.

My Dad used to do that for me when I was little. That was the most frustrating game ever, he used to drive me mad and even when I was near it would say "cold, freezing"! But yes it is fun sometimes and I have played it with mine too.

I didn't do it for my kids...or at least I cannot remember if I did....
when I was little the boy next door and I were playing in the back lane...we would race toy cars along tracks between the rocks, play marbles, pogo jump, play football, run out billy carts, ride bikes and all sorts of things. This particular day, we were digging for treasure and I dug up some pretty glass beads . I was thrilled and very excited and I thought nothing of it when my playmate wanted to keep the "treasure" safe at his place. I found more beads the next day and also a few days after that. When I tried to find them on my own I had no luck. That was a sad time for me, searching and digging by myself to no avail.
It was years and years later that I realised it was my friends Mum who was burying the beads for us to "find".

We do that on easter. We have certain colored eggs for the different kids...we have 3 kids, and they have to find a certain amount of eggs before they get a present...I find it better than them coming down and seeing all the gifts from the easter bunny "left" for them. they love it too. They start asking for it in like january....hehehe
