Okay I'll start this interest off hopefully with a never discussed issue. Have you ever done, or seen cow tipping? Cows sleep standing up for the most part on faqrms etc. It's the practice of sneaking up on the cow then tipping it over quickly. This is a clip from the movie Tommy Boy of teaching cow tipping. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drSxUEyvQ0Q HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I've seen it done. We also use a head gate and "Cradle" to tip them for branding the calves thats calf tiping cradle. Then we can tip the safely without hurting them or ourselves.

PS the only time ive seen it done was with branding not sneaking up behind a sleeping cow...and cows tend to sleep laying down.

I heard this years ago. Then one day when I was doing laundry in the laundry room in the garage I overheard my 2 boys and some of their friends talking about doing this. That night my husband and I dumped both out of their beds...at least they had soft carpet to land on so neither got hurt. We explained that it was just a taste of how a cow feels when they tip them over while sleeping. I found out later that they had already tried this and got run out of the field. Sometimes all cows are not asleep. Have to watch those that are laying down.

Really? That's odd as most teens in farmlands did this for a fun friday night activity. That's the lives of farmers teens I guess. Sorry about the caps above, the cap lock was on. Grrr! Thanks. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

who told you cows sleep standing up ? anyway why would you find it sporting to do this? how would you feel if a cow came in your bedroom and tipped you up :)) some people find the weirdest things funny ... and usually at someone else's expense ... you wanna be brave then tip someone bigger than you and see how you react when they chase you and pound you into the ground ...

Number one I never stated I found it sporting myself did I? Thank you very much. Number two I stated they sleep standing up for the most part. If you've ever lived on a fram you'd know this of their sleeping habits. No they are not always standing when asleep, but for the most part, yes the sleep standing. And as mentioned below a cow sleeping is not easy to sneak up on without awakening this. It does not hurt the animals either as they are so large of a a mass. Anyhow this isn't a serious matter just a discussion for fun is all. Thanks for your response as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I have never done this but my ex-husband is from upstate NY and they did this as fun when they were younger. He said they would drive around all night and go to different fields tipping cows. I thought it was very mean spirited. When the animated movie Barn Yard come out the scene where they sneak into the kids bedroom and tip him over is so very funny! Turn about is fair play. One of these days someone is going to try to tip a bull by mistake and it will be a bad day.

I loved that scene as well. There are video games with the same pricipal inviolved of cows tipping people over. OWWW! A bull would not be one most people would try to tip I think. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Apparently my dad has seen this done because he lived in the country growing up. And I mean WAY out into the country. I had no clue what it was until I heard the term years ago and asked him.

Call me dumb but I had never heard of cow tipping until recently. My grandson and I was playing a video game a while back and one part of the game was cow tipping and you had to protect the cows from being tipped by the bullies. Off hand I can't recall the name of the game but it is cute.

No, butI recently saw tractor tipping.. Over at my grandsons house, they were playing the movie cars and the car would tip tractors like people tip cows..So that is the closest I have seen to cow tipping..

Oh, the poor cows! I wouldn't like to do this - or see it being done. Cows are very heavy, and I would think being tipped over would give them a horrible shock - plus, they could easily break a leg. I hope it's only a joke and not carried out regularly as some kind of sport. Too cruel!

lol! i think this discussion is great! i, myself, have never cow tipped, although i have heard of it. i have seen tommy boy so i had seen the clip, and it's hilarious! :) i don't see anything wrong with it- if i lived in the country with nothing to do i am sure i would have attempted it myself. although i do not think i would have much luck. :) i live in new york, so cow tipping isn't really a popular pasttime around here! lol but my grandmother grew up in north carolina, and she says she has done it when she was younger.

I have only seen this on the movie and never in real life even though I loved on a farm for awhile I never thought to try this..I have seen Tommy Boy movie about 20 times since my husband thinks it rocks..and gives him a good laugh. So I seen this scene many many times..lol You think that someone would seriously do this stunt or is it made up for the movies? I hadn't heard of it before this movie.

Well, it sounds funny but it would be traumatic for the cow, and possibly cause injuries. In that case, any one who tips a cow is a turd.

I've heard a lot about this and asked my mom if she or her brother ever did it and she said neighbor boys used to do it-along with outhouse tipping-but she and her brother never did.

I have heard of outhouse tipping before..I never did any of it but have heard baout it that and also blocking the door so they can't get out and nailing the door shut from the outside...I am glad what little time I had to use one that it never happened to me ..the scariest thing that happened to me was having a big snake curled up in the corner getting mad at being disturbed..boy I was out of their pants down like a rocket..my mom said my feet didn't hit the ground till I hit the back door..never again did I use a outhouse there again..not even in the daylight..

I have heard of this, but never done or seen it (other than on TV). I do remember as a teenager, that when my sister went to camp in New York, when the kids found out she was from New Jersey they asked her if she'd ever been cow tipping. It was the first time I'd ever heard of that. (They were city kids and assumed NJ is all farmland).
