What you first do when there is a power interruption?

Minutes ago while I am typing here in mylot there was a power interruption here in my village. The first I did was turn off the power regulator of my computer and then I turn off the air conditioner, I went down and unplug the refrigerator. I checked on the kids and went on preparing a bed on the other room. Since we have no rechargeable fans, we have to sleep on the playroom because it is well ventilated. I made a bed there and started transferring the kids, I have to wake them up to change their clothes, they sleep with long sleeves because we have aircon in our room and so I have to change them in more comfortable one. Then after that we proceed on trying to sleep amidst the warm air. as we are getting ready the power turns on again. Thank heavens! it is just funny that after all the effort of preparing a bed in the other room the power will be OK, but I am thankful of course! I can't imagine how my kids will sleep outside our room with no fans. This brownout thing led me to start a discussion.. How about you guys? What is the first thing you do when you experienced power interruption? and oh, I forgot to turn on the ref!

So far for the 1-2 times i experienced power interruption, i din switch off anything.. hehe ^_^ I just leave them alone so that when the power is back, i need not switch on everything again.. lol =D But luckily the times when i experienced power interruption is during 7+ till 8pm, so it's not too bad because we are not eating nor getting ready to sleep just yet ^_^ All we do was to gather outside our house and after a few mintues, the power will be back again ^_^ haha

i hate power interruption. cause i have no power regulator on my computer. i think that i should buy soon so that every power interruption will not affect my computer or destroy it. usually, i just lay down on my bed and rest cause i feel bored when there is no television or when i can't use the computer. i just try to wait for the power to come back. usually the power interruption will last about 5 minutes each time. but they will have the power interruption at least 3 times a night if ever they will have power interruption.

Hey pehpot! I'm glad that your power went back on so quickly. It is so horrible to be without power especially when it is very hot out! And of course that's usually when we lose the power! I would turn the fans off it they were on and lights but, not the refrigerator. I would want that to go right back on when the power started again. I guess it would depend on what I had turned on at the time the power went off like if the tv was on I would turn that off too.

I will turn off all of our appliances. I will go out and go to the mall. It's very cold there because they have generators. Sometimes I just went outside of our house bringing a folding bed and sleeping there. Most of the times when there is power interruption, I can experience peace of mind. Why? It is because that is the only time wherein I can hear the sounds of nature. I mean the birds singing and the leaves of the trees swinging.

do you know se7enthbird? he taught me how to have electricity with the help of car batteries. and i really thank him A LOT for that. as you know we have an infant at the house and it is not easy to move around without lights. i to can not imagine how can the infant sleep properly without any ventilation. but to respond with your discussion. i turn off the fridge in case of power interuption. turn on the radio (battery operated of course lol) for it is boring if we will just wait for the lights doing nothing.

Hello, Pehpot! Wow, what a lot of work just because the power was interrupted. lol I wouldn't like to have to do so many things when the power was out. Here, all I do is turn off the computer. That's all. Perhaps I'd go to the power key and turn it off, so the whole house would have its energy cut. Simple, isn't it? I think it's better than turn off some of the things, then you have to turn it on again later... And you might forget half of the things that you had turned off. lol Respectfully, Munhozmib.

hmm, if the computer happens to be turn on when there is a power interruption, that's the first thing I'll turn off and then the main switch and the refrigerator. After that, I look for a candle and light it out. And then, since I don't think I can sleep in that situation, I'll just lay down at the sofa, talking with my family or playing some games in my cellphone while waiting for the power to resume again. However, if the power interruption seems to be quite longer before it resume again, we will just sleep but surely I can't sleep comfortably since it was hot and all.

If there will be a power interruption then the first thing I have to do is to grabbed a lighter, matches, candles or torch to have a light while the light is off then lighted it on then i would just have to grabbed another thing is a food or chips while I was waiting for the light to on or have a power on again.....

If it's at night the first thing I do is stumble over about 3 or 4 things trying to find a flash light or candle. I always put the flash light right where I can find it easy but when I need it it's never there. My Grand Daughter has all kind of candles all over the place but they are not easily found in the dark. One day I am going to set me up a battery back up that will come on if the grid fails.

he he or just put a candle and a match in a place you least expected it to be. like in a casserole? in that way it would be easier for you to find it

Usually when there is power interruption i waited for it to come back. I usually go out and talk with friends and if it happens during night time. I spend time talking with my parents then after an hour of waiting if it didnt came back thats the time i will be preparing my bed and wash my face before going to bed.

First thing we normally do in my household is grab the candles afteral without light you can't see anything and I don't know why but if we're going to have a power cut it will be during the evening when we rely most heavily on electricity. The next step is to as you mentioned make sure everything is switched off and preferably unplugged. The only thing left is to sit and wait for it to come back on.

Hi! I almost forgot the last time I experienced a power interruption. In the Philippines, that's quite common. I even remember having those during typhoons. The first thing that my family would do is to turn off whatever it was that was "on" prior to the interruption. That would most likely be the television which is the most popular piece in my house. I don't remember my mother asking us to unplug the refrigerator, though. Afterwards, we all turn on the rechargable lamps. Our generators have stopped working a few years back, so when brownouts or blackouts occur, I just go to sleep in the dark, which I love to do anyway! Power interruptions are not common here in the States. Happy myLotting, friend!

That is true! Soon after power interruption, I also see to it to turn off and unplug necessary appliances that may be damaged if power come back. If it is night time, I go ahead to the place where our candles were place in order to give light to the house.

hello pehpot, I guess the first thing that I will do is to unplug the ref. Check if there is any other appliances that are on or plug. Then I will get ready for the flashlight or the portable light or even candles just incase it will take some time. Usually here in our place, having power interruption is scheduled, altough it happens mostly at day time. But when there is a typhoon or heavy rain, that is when they will shut it off in an unexpected time.

Unplug all appliances, but of course if it's dark, I need to find for a lighter first to light a candle or look for the flashlight first before unplugging. But, yes, I will do the unplugging to avoid the risks when power comes back suddenly.

I got these solar powered lights that are cool because you just attach them to the wall so I don't need candles anymore. Also if its winter I got a kerosine heater I can use to keep warm. As far as summer that would suck as it would be really hot if the power was to go out for long. The power usually does not go out for long and is usually just a thunder storm that puts it out for less than an hour. A blizzard is when we have a problem as that could last days. That doesn't happen hardly ever though as thats been years ago. I had to go to my grandfathers(rip) because he has natural gas for electricity or else we would have freezed in our house. Me and my families electricity was out for 3 days that year which was very rare.

It is funny I find this conversation. I lost my power this morning. I turned off the lights and then just waited for the power to come back on. I don't unplug anything. My power was off for four and a half hours. That was a long time to be without the power. My kids were getting stir crazy and so I just decided to go out for a little while. So I am curious, why do you have to unplug all these things? Is it because it is hard on the equipment?

ah they say that when the power return the sudden burst of electricity may damage the appliances, if you have a power regulator that won't be a problem
