I'm so tired of taking pills for headaches, backaches, knee pain, allergies, to help me sleep, to get the vitamins I need.....Does anyone use home remedies for ANYTHING anymore? What do you use and what do you use it for? How well does it work? I try not to take anything for colds. I drink hot tea with honey and lemon in it and eat a lot of chicken soup. They seem to dull the symptoms but they won't go away any faster. I also like to take hot baths or showers to ease bodily aches and pains and also to help relieve congestion.

My daughter and I both have colds and since you are recommended to not give any cold medicine to children anymore we've been trying some home remedies to help ease her symptoms. I have been giving her decaffeinated green tea with honey twice a day. The green tea is loaded with antioxidants and hopefully it will boost her immune systems and the honey helps coat and soothe her throat and calms her coughing. We have been giving her two showers a day with lots of steam and are using a cool mist humidifier at night to help with the congestion. It's just the beginning of the cold and flu season and my daughter has just started preschool so I'm sure we'll be battling lots of sniffles throughout the fall and winter.

Thanks for the response. That's kind of why I started this discussion, I have a 7 year old, a 2 year old and a 3 month old. I am also tired of taking medications, if it isn't safe for them, they probably arent safe for anyone.

I also don't take cold medications, they don't like me and I get weird reactions. For sleep I take melatonin. Its an over the counter supplement that works great. For pain I take prescription meds. Not much choice to skip the meds for me. I have numerous issues, and take 14 different meds each day.

Yuck I wouldn't like that, taking that many meds. I have heard of Melatonin but have never tried it. Thanks for the info and response.
