Academics or Sports?

If you were to excel in something, which would you prefer, excelling in the academics (e.g., being a researcher, professor, etc.) or in a particular sports? Why? What benefits or advantages do you see in your choice?

I would very much prefer to excel in academics - because I think there are better opportunities at work with that kind of set of skills. If I were to excel in a particular sports, then there are only so many slots for the National team and such. Whereas excelling in academics means - employment/entrepreneurship, etc. :) It seems much more flexible in the "real world". Thanks for the response on my discussion!
