In your mind: Who is the biggest icon of success?

And how do you measure success? I think a successful person is one who may acquire wealth though that is not the most important thing. Success can be measured in many different ways. My icon of success is and always will be my father. He worked like a madman!....was a disabled American soldier....loved his family, surrounded himself with so many friends.....and had a heart of gold. So is there someone you would like to share as your icon of success? Someone whom you look up to and admire with all your heart?

To me,success means the degree of accomplishment of the goals and dreams set in one'life,be it is about material affluence, or aspiration for peace and stress free life or spiritual contentment or anything one eagerly looks for a fulfilled life.Success is the measure of your ability to fulfil yyour desires with least expense of one's effort and resources. It is also the dgree of effectiveness how one make the best use of the oppotunity and circumstances, one faces in life. I am a positive minded person, and see the light of success everywhere and with every thing around me. Thanks.

As of this day I have 2 icons of success. First and foremost is my 17 plus years of being clean and sober. The next would be myself for being my fathers caregiver. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I would have to say my husband. We both had a basic, middle class background as kids. Grew up in the same area, went to the same schools and graduated from the same high school. He went on to better his education and became a very successful businessman. He has a thriving business that is a necessary service to everyone. We all pay taxes and we all have to die! My father wasn't as successful but he was a wonderful, absolutely fantastic father. He was a well known musician and had many friends who just idolized him. He taught me about life, love and happiness. He's now deceased but I think of him so often and the fun we use to have. He was one wonderful man.

Thank you for the nice compliment, Jill. My father would have been 102 years old two days ago. He taught me everything about people and life. Just a fantastic father. My husband and my father are and were very different. I tried to marry a man like my dad but it didn't work...lol

That would have to be my father as well, He didn't grad. But he became president of a company. He was alway's looked up to by others. He had a huge heart and was a wonderful husband. Well, he could be selfish as well. But you know my Mom helped my father be who he was. No matter what she was behind him next to him and in front of him. If you wanted to talk to my Father you had to get past my Mother. That was no easy task for a lot of people. So I can't just say my Dad. With out saying my Mother who was his rock. So it is both. Your friend onlydia. sorry it is late. I have not been on alot just here and there.

I think success compose of a lot of things. I think people that have make good money and change human lives are successful people. I think that Bill Gate is a succesful person because he's wealthy but he also changed human lives with Microsoft Office. I think Oprah is a successful person because she had changed her own life and many other people's lives.

It would be a footballer or someone who is successful in his profession, someone who is successful at home to, someone that has managed to keep a family united. My idol was Guiseppe Bergomi an Inter player, a gentleman both inside and outside the pitch.

I know a lot of folks will disagree, but I'm pretty impressed with Bill Gates' success. He never planned for the monumental influence - he was just a brilliant kid putting his idea into reality. And look at him today. Not that I agree with he does and doesn't do, but I think he is definitely an example of success in America.

I would not really define success to no one single person as there is so many. To me success is being able to know yourself and use what God gave you to the best of your ability. Its also about having a positive mind and being optimistic and not being negative overall as that can really hold anybody back. Its also being able to evaluate your past and know the mistakes you made so you can correct them. Peace and understanding are also good ways to succeed as anger can blind anybody.

This is an interesting discussion because there are all kinds of ways to be successful. I assume you are talking about a person or persons that we know personally as opposed to just somebody we saw or TV or something like that. Your dad sounds like he was a great man. It must have been very cool to grow up having a dad like that. You must feel very, very lucky to have known him. I guess I measure success by being at the top of your field, having great and high recognition and admiration for what you do (for a living). Other people look up to you and hope to be somehow associated with you because of your intellect, skill, and/or abilities. People learn from you and admire you in many different ways when you are successful. In my lifetime, the person I've been the closest with whom I believe is successful is my husband. He went to school, was published before he even got out of college, and has remained working in the same field for over 40 years. He's written many books, and hundreds of journal articles and has traveled many years of his life speaking and sharing his research and ideas. I could go on and on but I'll just stop there. And the crazy thing is, he's just an ordinary guy when you meet him. He loves his family, is probably the best dad I've ever personally known, and truly loves unconditionally and without control or jealousy. Thanks for a great mylot discussion, jillhill.

i think tht in life we find many people who leave a gr8 effect on our thinking and start to admire them.......every person has some good n bad qualities....for me there is not a single ideal person but a no. of people who have extremely good quality i loved to adopt....one should always adopt the good qualities in a person........so the bad side is not there!! Good luck!!

Hi there! Aside from my parents, the biggest icon of success is Oprah. She has been very successful in her field. She had help a lot of people and stuffs. Even though she's very successful she's still a down to earth and very humble person. I really look up to her as a real success story. Have a nice day!

You are right...Success can be measured in many ways. My greatest success is in my son and being a mother...Both come without monetary payment..but bith are the greatest joys of my life.I love being a mother.. My son is now 22 years old and I am ver proud of him and the way he has turned out as a true gentleman. I also see succes in many other ways..It can be in attaining goals and dreams, to taking care properly of your family and animals. Success comes from desires and meeting them in the best way possible! Best Wishes~

I think that every person has a different definition of success. To some it is money, sadly. I used to think so myself. I now know that my success is measured in terms of my son and what I am able to give to others. I have several icons for success. Jesus Christ is the number one for me. My grandmother who seemed to be so high class that you would be afraid to wrinkle her, I found was not that much different then me. I always looked up to her, even more so when I realized that I could just like her. My best friend is someone to look up to as well, we both lost our husbands within 6 months of each other from car accidents and got back in touch after. I have to say that I think she has been more successful then me at getting through and being die hard with regards to what she wants out of life for herself and her children. I have the desire, I look to copy her for the motivation and drive. Most of all I look to my son. He is autistic and I find his view of the world and of success to be enlightening. His success is not measured by how many friends or how much money he has, but what he is and becomes as a person.
