Do any of you have a teenager that's not really a bad kid, but is/has been involved in juvenile crimes? If successful, How did you handle it? Were you sympathetic and understanding and patient or were you infuriated and angry and punitive? I'm talking about bad kids turned good - what caused the turnaround?

My own kids aren't old enough to have been involved in anything like that, but when I was a kid, my brother got involved in something with some other kids, that turned pretty ugly and I really admired the way my parents handled the situation. They were very calm and explained to my brother how disappointed they were in the decisions he had made. They also let him know very clearly that he would be punished and how and for how long, but they were also very clear that they loved him and were disappointed in his choices, not he himself. My brother was so crushed to think that he disappointed his parents, that he's never even come close to doing anything even remotely "criminal".
