Is it rude to tell a stranger that they are good looking?

November 6, 2006 6:15pm CST
One of my friends went up to a random girl in the street and told her he thought she was good looking, but she seemed offended and walked off. Is it rude to tell random people that they are good looking?

No I don't think so.The girl may have thought he was just trying to pick her up and that was why she was offended.Or shy could have been shy and not known how to respond to it so she just walked off.A simple smile and thank you would have been suffecent.

You are very right. A smile never cost anyone anything

No....I don't think it is rude. I have had guys make comments to me as well. However...It does make you feel a little weird as a woman....and you aren't sure what to do...It seems like you just feel like it is another come on line...so you tend to ignore it...

Some people get paranoid if a total stranger walks up to them and says what he/she may seem to be nothing more than a compliment. It takes them off guard. She may not have been offended, but totally freaked out.

i guess you are right still he had no ill will or any other intent than to compliment her

Not really. You are just appreciating the beauty you see in a physical side.

He had no intention of following up on it or anything. He was just being nice and she was just a bit rude

definitely not! It should be a compliment, unless your friend is staring at the girl in a 'different' kinda way, then it's rude LOL. but overall, i think it's sweet

In the workplace this is harrassment. I think it is a compliment and should be taken as one if done in the right tone of voice. I think everyone likes to hear flattering things told to them.

its not rude to tell a stranger....but just as it depends on thier thinking....that if they feel insecure from your side then they will get rude.....
7 Nov 06
