Are celebrated musical 'junkies' bad for society?

Im from the UK but Ive no doubt that many of you Americans have heard of Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse. Both are without doubt talented musicians, but is the glamourisation of these celebrities a good thing or a bad thing? What is the alternative? should they be demonised for their use of hard drugs? you could on one hand say that their drug taking is not harming others because they van fund habits through album sales, but do they damage society? Younger fans who may be more impressionable may take their example a little too literally? What are your thoughts?

I don't listen to her music, but Amy Winehouse looks like hell. If she keeps it up i don't think she'll make it much longer.

Thats for sure! I heard that she hasnt been able to finish recording a single song in 8 months, which I think is a shame...
