we're watching Food Network's "Dinner Impossible" and they have to come up with a dessert. so they take some thick slices of cooked bacon and run it through a chocolate candy making machine which completely coats the bacon in thick milk chocolate, and then they sprinkle chopped nuts on top............BACON AND CHOCOLATE??? i'm thinking, that's gotta be pretty gross. but then they start sampling it and give it to other people to try and everyone's absolutely raving how awesome it is. now i want to try it. has any of you chocoholics ever tried this unusual chocolate.........treat??? how is it?

No I have never heard of this but I do love bacon as well as chocolate! Not sure that I would have the nerve to try it though. I am the person who did not want to try all the various fried things at the fair either. LOL Some of them were actually pretty good but I could not see myself eating them often!

no but its usually yummy when you mix meats, especially salty meats with sweets. when i was little my step dad used to mix jelly with nearly everything. gravy, potatoes, etc. and i tried it a couple times and it was pretty good.

i guess it wouldn't be much different than when you have a plate with pancakes with syrup, bacon, and eggs and it all mixes together........yummmmmmmm

Well I think it's not that bad since chocolate in the beginning was also eaten with peppers. I think maybe if these ingredients were mixed properly in the right amounts it would still taste good.

I would be one that would say no way at first but then it looked so good and then I thought I really like chocolate covered pretzels and chocolate covered potato chips so why not. There is something about the salty and sweet that make it taste so good. I don't know that I would try any other type of meat covered in chocolate but it almost seems right to cover bacon in chocolate. Its thin, salty and crunchy. Some day I will try it.

There is a chocolate store called Coco Rouge located in Chicago, that makes chocolate bars with bits of maple candied bacon pieces within the bar. The website is: http://www.cocorouge.com/chocolatebar/ The chocolate bar with the bacon in it is called "Carnassier" and is priced at $7. It's worth a look for all those that are curious to see what it would taste like.

No, and I don't think I will, thank you. I imagine there are people that would love it, but to me it would be a waste of two foods that are perfectly fine on their own. I love bacon. I love chocolate. But they are two completely different things, eaten for different reasons. I'll eat bacon for breakfast, or a sandwich for lunch. I eat chocolate, well, whenever I want to eat chocolate. So would this 'treat' be a snack? I think that would be a pretty costly snack.

i agree it would be a complete waste of 2 entirely different food groups. although i am a little curious.

No, I can't say I've ever tried that particular treat, sconi ... but I have heard of them doing deep fried Mars Bars in England somewhere! I've also heard of them making ice-cream with chilli, bacon and other strange ingredients, and chocolate with chilli. It's supposed to be delicious!

I saw that episode. And, I guess if they didn't tell me what it was, and it looked like chocolate, I would eat it. I can't really imagine eating chocolate covered bacon, though. What the heck am I talking about? I eat cheddar cheese cubes with chocolate!

Have never tried this combination together and I must admit when I first read your discussion I couldn't believe what you were saying...bacon...a savoury meat which is normally fried and chocolate...a perfect sweet treat. How could these two ingredients possible compliment each other in an edible dish? I'm astonished to read on that people were actually amazed by how it tasted and I must admit I am now very curious to find out what this tastes like too!

sconibear Nope I have never tried bacon coated with chocolate and I dont think I want to. yuck with a capital Y. I love bacon, and I love chocolate, but why would anyone want to ruin good bacon by killing its great flavor with equally good chocolate. Either one by itself is great but no no no I would never want to taste bacon with sweet stuff on it or chocolate with a meat flavor. Let good things alone people. It sure 'doesnt sound like a treat to me.

LOL...I'm surprised that Ben & Jerry's hasn't come out with a Chef Robert's Bacon Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream! I wonder if anyone there is reading this?

I thought it would be horrible too....but surprise! It's actually quite good. I think it works by activating more taste buds at the same time. It sort of works the same way chocolate covered (salted) pretzels, or chocolate covered (salted) nuts does. Some time when you cook bacon, take a piece and eat it with a hershey's kiss. That will give you a pretty good idea if you'll like it.

I myself have never heard of this flavor combination but do like each individualy. I would likely be willing to try it though, at least once if anything. I was taken aback by this dessert and had to ask my husband if he had ever heard such a thing and he said about a year ago he seen some in a Walmart store.
