Who named your baby?

I was interested in how everyone named there child. Was it one parent or both who picked out the name(s)? Is there any meaning behind the name you chose, if so what is it? How long did it take to come to a final decision? And do you believe that a name will define a person or that as the child grows they grow into their given name?

I thought about the name and told my husband and he agreed. The name was Elle. Elle is a word that is the same no matter how you reverse it or flip it over. So, it means that our daughter will be strong enough to overcome all difficulties.

I never paid attention before that you could flip Elle and it still be the same!

Well, I am now 8 months pregnant and regarding the name of our baby boy, it took a long time for us to decide on his name. Me and my husband started thinking about the name of our baby during the first trimester of my pregnancy and as time passes by, people began asking for our baby's name. It was funny cause even until we learned that our baby is a boy, we still haven't come up with a name. I suggested a lot of names to my husband but he was still looking for something else. Finally, last month, he agreed to the name I suggested. I even looked into the internet for ideas. It was quite tiring and fun at the same time. But well no matter how it was, we are now just waiting for our baby boy to come out.

Congratulations on the baby. I know it can be difficult when you both are trying to decide on a name.

My ex and I both agreed on my daughter's name which is Destiny Paige. I wanted to name her Destiny because I always felt in my heart that I was destined to be a mother. She definitely is my destiny and reminds me of it every day. My son's name is Justice Shay. He is mixed and while I was pregnant a lot of people who I considered "friends" told me that I should get an abortion because he was half African American. I even had a "friend" who told me that she was praying that I would have a miscarriage. It hurt me deeply and I did alot of praying and told God that only He could bring justice to the people who said these things. And He did because on November 16, 2006 God brought a little Justice into the world. His middle name is Shay because I told my daughter she could pick out his middle name and she wanted to name him after my sister, her aunt Shay.

I hope those people are not still your "friends." Any child is a blessing and people who can not see beyond color are only doing a disservice to themselves.

Baby Noah - Baby Noah smiling like always. Oh how cute he is sitting in his bumbo chair.
My husband and I could not agree on a name. One day while visiting my mother she mentioned a story she saw on the news about an infant found alive after that huge hurricane. Because they boy had survived the flood they named him Noah, and it was like a light went on over my head. I asked my husband if he liked the name for our child, but he refused it. I liked to tease my husband by referring to the baby as Noah. When the baby finally came he was born on my dad's birthday. I asked my husband if we should name him after my father, and he said "I don't think we can change his name now. That baby is baby Noah."

I had twin girls. Me and my fiance had some criteria and then he chose one and I chose the other. Each of us was allowed to veto names if we needed to. I did not want wither of my girls to have the middle name ann because my mother and sister have that name and expected me to give my girls that name. He did not want a few names because he knew girls with those names which left bad memories in his head. In the end all i have to say is I am glad they were girls or he wanted to name one lazerous galactica. yikes. Now I have sophia marie and ellie jean. we call sophia -phi-phi and ellie - belly.

Ok in my first child my hubby chose the name robert paul niccolo for our son, after his first name which is robert, then my son's second name is paul which is also his given name but my hubby is not using it,my son's third name is niccolo which he gets from his favorite italian writer niccolo machiavelli so that's it.In my second child her name is gerianne noll,i chose gerianne after St. Gerard Majella patron saint of mothers,i prayed to him when my second child is in my womb, and when i had a safe delivery i promised to name her after that saint's name so i did it,her second name my hubby chose noll which means diminutive of oliver which is my hubbies second name.We agreed amicably in their given names so no need for a discussions.Yes i do believe that a name will define a person and sometimes those name the child grows with it they somewhat become what they are named, they turned out to be goodnatured, smart and very sensible persons.

I always wanted strong and meaningful names for my kids. I named my first one after a friend of mine that was killed by a drunk driver about three months before she was born, and her middle name is my maternal grandmothers name. When baby number two came along we didn't even ick out a name, we decided to let our first child name her. So we called her at 11pm, right after her sisters birth and said "you have a sister, what are we calling her?" and she has a beautiful name. My son was another story. I wanted a strong name since he's our only boy, so I named him the Greek name meaning "victory of the people" (my oldest is the greek "defender of mankind") and his middle name is that of my maternal grandfather. I think their names do define them somewhat, they just seem to "go" with their personalities.

I agree with you about wanting meaningful names. We put alot of thought into our children's names. I think I would be too nervouse to let my kids pick out a name!

Hi kcgobble, I'll be a single Mom on December and so I am basically the sole responsible for my baby's name. I am planning to name him Ernest Jean Nicholas. My Dad's name is Ernest and my Mom is Jean, Nicholas is from one of my favorite actors Nicholas Cage. It was actually easy for me to choose the names, I had the hardest time with Nicholas since I always love Hugh Jackman and Heath Ledger over Nicholas Cage , But well, the name Nicholas is much cuter than Hugh and Heath. I believe that our name will definitely make a big impact in our lives since we carry it anywhere we go, anytime. Anyways, I have carefully researched the meanings of each name and this is what I found: ERNEST -- English: Serious, resolute JEAN -- French: Variation of John; Hebrew: God has been gracious; John is the name of one of Christ's disciples, and another biblical John—John the Baptist—baptized Christ in the Jordan River. One of the most popular names in the world, variants of John have been created in almost every language. . See also Johann NICHOLAS -- Greek: Victorious; This New Testament name grew in popularity through Saint Nicholas, a fourth-century bishop known as the patron saint of sailors, travelers, bakers, merchants, and especially children. Saint Nicholas is now best known in the United States as Santa Claus, a name that comes from Sinterklaas, which is Dutch for Saint Nicholas. Great discussion. Keep posting!

When I was pregnant I kept on bugging my husband on how we are going to name our daughter. He didn't mind thinking until even when our daughter was born. He thought that it was really easy to come up with a name. In the hospital we just decided to name her after both us. So it's a combination of my name and his name. Her name is Janel. Check out my profile you will see them there.

I still think that is a sweet idea to name your kids with a combination of the parents name. I never would have thought of that.

I went into labor five weeks early and I still didn't have a name picked out. My boyfriend wanted to name our son after him but I wasn't exactly in love with his name to begin with so that just wasn't going to work. So the whole time while I am in labor we are discussing names and finally I just thought "Daniel" and he said "ok, that's not a bad name". Well right when I pushed the baby out, my mom's cell phone rings and her ring tone was "Danny California" by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. We took it as a sign and the name stayed.

I'm expecting my 1st baby. The name I plan to give her is the name that I have chosen. I've liked it for at least 3 or 4 years now. I think I heard it on t.v or something. I loved the way it sounded, and it's a name I have never forgotten. I'm happy with the name that I've chosen for her.

Both of our boys carry family names: our oldest son is named after my husbands uncle (1st name) his middle name is my maiden name. We knew very early on what we were going to name him and my father-in- law was very excited. His brother passed away at the age of 30 and I guess a child can grow into a name because everyday he looks more and more like his great uncle. Our youngest child was a little more diffcult, we wanted my parents to have input into the 1st name and I came up with 20 that were linked to my side and everyone that he would have been named after someone took issue with it- in the end my mom picked his first name which is a great times like 10 grandfather and his middle name is the same as my husbands. And he looks just like my dad. So in the end it was a family affair and we couldn't be happier. And now when they hear how they got their names they think its great to have such stories to tell.

hubby and i had an agreement. if the baby was a girl, i will name her. if it's a boy then he'll name the baby. my child's name is zoie adrienne. zoie means life because i almost had a miscarriage and adrienne is the female version of my hubby's name adrian. it means "the dark one". i chose adrienne because she is a spitting image of her father. like her name, my baby is full of life and always happy.

picking my son's name was easy. there were so many names i did not like or want for one reason or another. no chris as it was an exboyfriend's name. no william because it was my grandfather, cousin, father-in-law and husband's name, no joe because we already had 5 or more in the family already. i liked andrew but my husband hated it so we eliminated that right away and my next choice was michael and he liked it so that is what we picked and it fits our son perfectly!

I have 5 kids and we had decided on the names before they were born but we had always picked a boys name and a girls name. There names are Kelly, James, David, Luca and Aleksandra. The first three names are Irish and the last two names are Russian. Thank god my kids have never been given nicknames as i would always like for them to be called by there full name.

I don't have a kid. But as far as my knowledge,my father named me.And I was named after my great grandmother,as everybody thought I looks like her.A name is just given to call that person,a name mustn't define a person's personality.

I have a one year old son. When he was born and i got home that was the time i started searching the net for baby boy names. Before that cosulted an astrologer for the alphabet with which we should be naming our son. Wanted a name which was small in terms of less alphabets, one which could not be shortened and made into a nick name.Neways i had picked out a list of names from the net with meanings. Gave it to my husband. His was the final say. Well the whole rpocess took about 2 months. Neways it depends on parent to parent. Some shorlist the names before the baby is born and keep it once the baby is born. There is no hard and fast rule about keeping a name. But a nice sounding name does give a boost when people compliment on the name kept. As per the child growing into their given name....let mine grow would surely post n tell.

I named my baby. I have a whole list of various boy and girls names that I like, complete with middle names. I always have lol. I wanted to name my daughter Jasmyne Rae after my favorite flower, and Rae just sounded the best with it. Good thing it matched my ex husband's last name! Otherwise...lmao
