hi! if you are faced with a person who was blind since forever, how do you make him/her understand the color RED?

Wow- I think this may be the best question ever. I went to www.dictionary.com to see what it said and really it was NO help. I guess I would tell someone its warmth- that's how I feel when I think of the color red. Warmth, beauty, and love are the 1st things that come to mind that I feel could even begin to describe it.

hi dncmanning. thanks for taking time to respond to this. really, it's quite difficult to describe that color to someone who has never seen (literally) anything. same thinking here, i would probably talk about love and pain to give an idea of the color.

I believe the way people do this is to describe what red makes you feel like. Hot, warning, stop.. some might choose passion or romance. Would be really tricky, though.

It's impossible to do so as the perception of colour is a purely visual one and can't be described meaningfully in any other way. It would be possible for that person to understand intellectually that red was a function of wavelength, but I don't know if that would help them to "see" the colour.
