you're first day of work

There are a lot of things that concern a newly hired employee on his or her first day to report to work. He or she feels excited, of course, especially if it's his or her first job; those who have previous work experience may be anxious. Just as there are freshman survival kits to college, here are a few effective ways to overcome this "initiation" day. 1.DON'T EXPECT TOO MUCH MUch of the confusion during your first day of work arises from reconciling your job description and employment contract. It's a good start to read your job description thoroughly and accept ll the terms and conditions stipulated in it before pinching your daily time record (DTR) in. By doing that, you would know your rights, privileges (enjoy them!), and incentives. Expecting to much from what you and your employer agreed upon may just disappoint you, and you mat feel ripped off on your first day. The best thing to do is show the people around you more than what they think you can give, and blessings will pour down on you the next day. 2.RELAX It's no use worrying too much. RELAX. Do what you ought to do, do it well, and do it with your heart. Learn to tolerate simple things. Don't let idle moments bother you. When the natural turn of events seems to go against you, just focus. 3.ASK - don't SPECULATE Not everything is contained in the contract. More often, a lot of tasks seem to be underwritten. Problems abound when you don't bother asking for assistance, directions, or help. Silence is often considered a funny game of those who think of themselves as "able to work alone under minimum supervision." You cannot live locked up inside yourself or confined to your office or desk. Ask, but do it cheerfully. 4. STOW AWAY PESSIMISM Pessimism has no place in your first day; make that day a positive one - hopeful and promising! Think of only good things as you work; otherwise, you'll just be forever irritated if you make it a habit of thinking about negative things, and you won't enjoy your first day. whoaa....let's hear more on our friends on myLot.. please share us some of your opinion regarding our dearest friend whose about to go on with their first day on the job. chEErs!

Hey friend! Thanks for the tips of surviving that first day in a new work environment! It sounds good, but just take note that it might not apply to all! At the very most, use it as a guideline and majority of us should do fine on our first day! #1 is a good one. Expectations will stem from both the employer and the employee. As a new employee who has yet to prove his/her capabilities to their new boss, it is a bad idea to be expecting too much from your company. It's true that it's you who needs the company and it's never the other way around. Nobody is indispensable in this way, and if you don't want the job, there would always be others who is more than willing to replace you in your current position. So, always go on your job with no expectations, watch and see and form your expectations only after you have proven yourself to the boss. #2 I have my boss who used to tell me this. A person who looks busy need no necessarily be good, similarly a person who appears to have nothing to do does not necessarily mean to say he/she is not doing their work efficiently. Having nothing to do does not mean to say that you will form a negative impression on your boss. A good boss will be able to see things much further than anyone else in the company. So, it is true. Always relax, smile and just do what is required of you. Imagine this: You are a fast worker who takes 1 hour to complete 100 documents, your colleague is slow and takes 8 hours to complete that same set of documents. Who then, is lazy or who then is hardworking? Is it the one who worked for 8 hours straight or is it the one who only worked for 1 hour? A smart boss would be able to discern the real productive worker straight away. So, there is no need to worry unnecessarily. #3 I agree with this point! A person who ask is a person with lots of initiative. He is someone who is comfortable as well as confident of himself, and yet at the same time who is eager to learn the new ropes in a new working environment. A person with initiative tends to create a more lasting good impression in others than one who does not ask. I still remember two students who did their internship over at my current company. One of them is a boy with many attitude problems, and he will choose to remain quiet in many areas of work, and wants us instead to take the initiative to ask him if he wants any more work to do and all that stuff. The newest intern is someone who is eager to learn, has good attitude and always takes the initiative to find out things, and do things without even us assigning the tasks to him. Who will get a better grading in the end? Make a wild guess. Lol #4 Whether or not one enjoys the stuff or work that they are doing all depends on our own mindsets. We ourselves are the only ones who can make ourselves unhappy or happy. That's the power of our minds. So yes, pessimistism has no place in a workplace, more so when it is only the first day of work. Good one! Thanks for sharing once again! Take care and happy mylotting!!

Even if I already got about six jobs in the past, I still feel anxious during the first few days at work. But at my age I already learn to be very flexible and now its easy for me to adjust to any new environment that I would be in. Anyway that was a good points to consider for those who had their first day at work, and not only those first timers but even those who already got previous jobs. Lastly, I commend you for typing those tips, I know you cannot copy and paste it since you did not reach 500 posts yet.

I can never forget how it feels like during my first day in my first job. I already wanted to submit a resignation letter. I was a freshy and was idealistic at that time, the company did meet my expectations. Few months later, I resigned.

My first day of work was terrible. My officemates were really busy and they don't have time to orient or teach me with the basics. I really had a hard time because I don't know what to and what I should be really doing. After my first day, my feet was really tired and I have to elevate it the whole night because it haven't stop form trembling.
