I keep getting friends request from people on here who I never heard of or talk to. I was told I should accept every one of them. Is this a good idea? What is the significance of adding all of them. Im not trying to be mean I just don't like adding people I don't know.

I add some people, others I deny. I hate being hounded with friend requests but I'm attacked quite often. I'd say there are only a few people that I talk to sometimes but I don't talk to them outside of Mylot. And yet, I have several pages of friends. Half of these people don't even respond to my discussions so I'm not sure why I keep them around myself. Sure, you may get more money from them but a lot of them are just here in hopes that you'll join their other programs so they can get money from those places. They're not really here for Mylot purposes.

The only time I'm really cool with adding random people on here is if I recognize them from constantly visiting eachothers discussions (like sheepie) or if I'm really entertained by them (like sheepie)

The idea is to get to know more people with your interactions with them here and then become friends. Atleast that has been my experience. Whether you add all of them or those who respond to your discussions is upto you. You could check their profile and see if their interests match yours and then decide.
