Have you ever locked yourself out of your house?

Today I did. We were loading the car up with Cheerleading stuff and I shut the door. I just then noticed that my daughter had turned the knob to lock the door. My car keys, cell phone, and house keys were still on the kitchen table. I had to call my mom to bring me another set.

I've locked myself out SO many times it's not even funny. I lose a set of keys at least once a year, and I constantly forget them. Luckily, I live with my parents, so whenever I lock myself out all I have to do is wait for one of them to get home. It sucks in the wintertime or when it's raining, but I've figured out a way to get into our toolshed without a key, and there are space heaters there and lots of old textbooks, so I can last a couple of hours there.

I think I've been locked out of every house I've ever lived in. Every single time, I just broke it (without damaging anything). Surprisingly easy to do.

I locked myself out of the house about 15 years ago. I arrived home from work and suddenly realised that I did not have my keys with me, so I had no option but to break down the door to gain access. My keys were on the table when I got in. I spent the next hour repairing the door frame which had been totally split when I busted through the door. I never made that mistake again.

I really hate when that happens. I freak out. I have now given my neighbor that I know that I can trust a set of keys to my house. Thanks for sharing your lockout story.

I was laying out with my friend in the backyard, and my mom came outside and closed the door (which was not locked at the time) One of our dogs jumped on the door and locked it somehow!! So i had to call my fiance to have him come home with the key!! Never thought i would be locked out of the house by the dog

My father did. I was out and my brother was at home, sleeping. He latched the door and he couldnt wake up eventhough my father knocked/banged on the front door and pressed the door bell repeatedly. He have to enter the house by climbing over from our neighbour's balcony to ours...and im staying on the 12th floor!!

oh yes, I sure have! it is nice that your mom lives close enough to have a spare key for you - I once had to call a locksmith - but my father is a locksmith - if only we lived close enough! the last few times I happened to have a child small enough to fit through a window and come open the door!

I used to pick a lock in most houses and dorms and in some business place..same as opening cars with a coat hanger and then later in life with a (slim jim) a flat tool that slides along the side of the car window..police can do this too but the tow truck drivers can..but the newer cars have push buttons and i have them on my cars..or a spare "valet key" whick will open the car/truck door but has no chip in it and you cannot start the vehicle.... i have extra house keys in my garage..but i have to crawl through a window to get them..so i just hang them on a nail by the window..

I did that several times. One time, I put the pot on the fire and came out of house to play with my kid. When it was dark we went back. Then I realiezed I forgot to bring the key with me and the gas was still on. I called the police. They broke the door and turn off the gas. My little-pitty pot was burned. From then on, every time before I lock the door I check if I have key with me.

You were definitely fortunate to have someone with a spare set of keys to your home. I have never locked myself out of my house but have with my car. Good thing too since nobody has keys to my house so I would be in trouble if that happened.

I am thankful to God that i did n't do it yet. But yeah. Once in mine childhood, i locked the doors at the night and also locked that bed room where keys r available. I was too much young at that time. That was my Parents bed room. Dad looked at me and told me that i did that mistake but i was n't serious as i was too much young and did n't have any awareness about it but then suddenly, Dad looked at each and every door and saw that i had forgot keeping out keys from a lock. Dad smilled and told me about my second mistake as well as good deed. After that day, Dad seldom says to me to lock all the rooms at the night.

When I was a teenager I used to lock myself out on a daily basis. My school I.D. was aten up so bad after trying to use it to open the door. It was the worst when I did it in the winter and it was snowing. I froze my butt off.

This happens to me alot, we just changed the locks on our back door and I will go out to the garage and the door will automatically lock, usually this happens very early in the morning and I have to go to the front of the house and sometimes crawl through the window, I am sure my neighbors love this
