A friend sent an email from Tagged.com to my account asking me to join Tagged. I have a few concerns. I have, on occasion, been asked to join various social networking sites. Facebook, 360 yahoo, Orkrut, and a social ring for my highschool graduating class. There have probably been others. I know my mother started a circle of some sort several years ago.. I do not remember the name of it. Family circle or something like that. There is even Ancestry.com, where my sister started tracking our family tree. I seem to recall some other group that I'm a member of.. Plaxo, sort of an email address book updater. I generally, do not do so well on such social circles. Mylot is the most active board that I've participated in. I'm just not one for sharing personal information like that. But, I'm a nice guy with a kind heart. So, I get an email from one of my friends. Well, not really a close friend. Anyway, it is an invitation to join Tagged.com. As I'm filling out that form, I notice that this site seems to be collecting a bit of personal information from me. I grow a bit concerned about that. Then, at the end of the process, there is a part where you are asked to fill out your cell phone number and it send you a text message. Well, that surprised me. I rather think I didn't like that, as I wound up getting three text messages and I pay for those individually. I do not do a lot of texting, it isn't a part of my plan. There were a lot of such cell phone marketing offers. It made me uncomfortable. Conclusion: I was a bit sensitive about the collection of personally identifiable information by Tagged. Is any one else here a participant of the Tagged.com service and what do you think of it?

I get some Tagged emails but I just ignore them. I do get other invitations from other sites which my friends join. I also just ignore them. Most sites have this "invite a friend' feature where you are asked to fill in the email addresses of your friends. This is not so good for those people who get the spammy emails.

I joined tagged over a year ago. I got an invite too. I have never used it though. I don't recall the cell phone part. If there was one then I did not fill it out.

My sister is a member of Tagged. She sent me the invite. I accepted it, but haven't been able to use the service. I get error messages. So while I signed up, it is of no real use to me.

I have not used the service in question, but I think I understand the nature of the beast to which you refer. I am not Internet-social most of the time.
